Happy Tuesday Everyone,
Farmer Emily here saying hi. Spring is here and the tractors are all over the roads and fields. Please be kind if you get stuck behind one as farmers are only doing their job. They don't like being on the road either and do their best to avoid main roads where traffic is heavy.
Other news, the new foster cat is beginning to show her personality. Out of hiding and showing off royal demeanor. We are still looking for a home for her as she is one animal too many for the farm.
Remember egg pick up from 4 to 7

Happy rainy and cold Tuesday everyone. I hope everyone is keeping warm. The chickens seem to be faring better than me as their winter feathers are coming in nicely keeping them toasty warm. As the chickens age you may notice some changes when it comes to the eggs.
When the hens first began producing some of you might remember some odd eggs. There were a few yolk-less eggs, some with weird shapes, colours or textures. now that they are getting older changes will again occur. keep an eye out for double yolks, double eggs (an egg in an egg), extra thick or thin eggshells, odd textures or colours of eggs. Please let me know if/when you come across these as I love to know what my hens are getting up to. On a less fun note please also let me know if you come across anything you are unsure of or a bad egg. the inside of an egg is where symptoms show up of a problem in the flock. For example, blood spots in the egg are a sign of stress. most likely bullying is happening and intervention is needed before outer signs start to show such as feather or egg eating. Thanks for your cooperation and as always feel free to contact me with any questions about anything farm related. I am very good about saying when I dont know something and i love to share when i do.

Happy Tuesday Everyone. Well, we got a little bit of rain but not nearly enough. So glad Em has irrigation laid so her crops still get water. We also hooked up a hose to the chicken coop so they are getting lots of water too. They really like their water, especially when it hot out. The molting period is mostly done so the hens are starting to look normal again. They are getting a lot of weeds, mustard plants(weed) and produce. It is so fun when people come to visit and we let them throw the weeds into the hen yard. The hens starting running towards you before you are even near the fence. If you walk around the yard, they follow. Also, if it is really hot out, in the middle of the day, the hens will be inside until.....one of them notices someone coming near. Then they all run to come to get the treats. It is quite comical. Looking forward to you coming for the open house and meeting the hens that provide your eggs. It will be a great opportunity to ask farmer Emily any questions you might have. In the meantime, I will see you all tomorrow 4-7 for egg pickup.
