A little while ago, we were gifted some tea powders brought back by friends from their most recent trip to Japan. Today we're sharing them with you in our mochi cupcakes!
Our first flavour is made with houjicha, or roasted green tea. It has a rich and almost savoury flavour similar to matcha, but with an additional layer of nutty depth that pairs well with the juicy flavour of strawberry. The second is made with wakoucha, or Japanese black tea. It's not as well known as Japan's many green teas, and this one has a lighter and less astringent flavour compared to other better known black teas from different regions. The honey yuzu topping matches the sweet and almost floral notes of the tea, while also offering a variation on the classic pairing of black tea with lemon.
As always, they're gluten and dairy free, and available at today 10am-3pm!
