🇵🇹 Did you know Queijadas may be one of Portugal’s oldest pastries? 👀 Dating back to the 13th century, the story of the Queijada begins in Sintra, Portugal. In 1227, the lush pastures surrounding Sintra produced a plentiful supply of sheep and cow milk. Local farm women began making queijo fresco (fresh cheese), combining it with honey and eggs to create small, dense tarts that could be enjoyed and preserved. For nearly 500 years, Queijadas remained a homemade rustic treat. Then, in 1756, a woman named Maria Sapa began selling them commercially in the village of Ranholas, reportedly baking up to 20 dozen a day for travellers heading into the Sintra mountains.
Centuries later, the Queijada remains a beloved taste of Portuguese history at Aveiro Bakery 🇵🇹 ❤️ And the best part? You can enjoy our Queijadas in four delicious flavours! 👀 Queijada de Laranja, Coco, Amêndoa, and Feijão with lots of other delicious tarts!
