Hint of Sugar Custom order specialty cakes, cookies and country baking As a little girl I remember helping my mom make cookies.

I would stand on a chair at the dining room table and mash together the sugar and butter with a wooden spoon (hard work for a six year old, but oh the sweet reward of licking the spoon!). I'm pretty sure the intention was to keep me busy and out of the way while she worked in the kitchen; little did she know that this was the start of my love for sweet things and baking.

I love playing in the kitchen with littles. Over two days we made a design plan, did math, baked cake, experimented with a new filling, whipped up frosting, and spent many creative hours decorating. Today’s baker was very involved in every step - even after she learned that tons of math was needed to figure out how much of each ingredient to use or how many cupcakes she baked. We broke down multiplication questions into simpler addition type ones. She has a definite eye for details when decorating and was a joy to work with this weekend. Happy Birthday ❤️

Oh my heart 🥰. It’s been an amazing weekend with my niece. Her birthday is coming up and she wants to have a cookie decorating party with her friends. So we made dough, rolled & cut out shapes together. She’s way more engaged and helpful than my own kiddo was at this age and it took me three times as long to get it all done but the time spent together was absolutely priceless. 💕.

It feels good to be back in the kitchen 💕 These yummy morsels were for a birthday celebration …

… but there was extra batter (of course 🤣) so I added some apple pie jam to the filling and a dollop on top of the frosting and brought them to the school staff room “apples for the teachers”. Sorry, no pictures of those ones, they were gobbled up fast!

I’m not doing a lot of cakes this spring due to some medical things and learning to pace myself. For those of you that know me, pacing my energy and doing things slowly is hard 🤣. I worked hard to focus this week and pulled together some cupcakes and a “candy 💥💥” cake for my kiddo’s birthday. Whew, I’ll be sleeping for a few days now.
