🚨 Bad news folks 🚨

Tomorrow, we unfortunately will not be at the Bridgewater Farmers' Market

The sourdough starter I usually use went mouldy 😭 I had to unexpectedly take out a stash I had in my fridge (I always have backups hiding) but it’s not active enough to use for baking. It needs a few more days to be ready to use to make bread. If I used it now, it wouldn’t properly ferment the dough, and the bread would not turn out. To avoid poor quality bread and a loss of ingredients, timing, etc, I’ve had to make the decision to cancel our attendance at the Bridgewater Market for this week.

But! Because it only needs a few more days, I am opening a bake on Tuesday Oct 27 for people who place orders. I will post an order link, and all you have to do is fill it out and I will bake what you need that day.

The special this week is Roasted Garlic and Rosemary. Bagels are baked up and so are all the usuals, including the spelt loaf.

So, I have good news, and I have bad news.

Bad news first (because it’s always better to end on a happy note).

Due to the chaos/cacophony of yesterday spilling over in to today in the form of catch up, I won’t have two favourites baked for the Lunenburg Market tomorrow. No bagels, and no spelt loaves 😔 I know many of you were looking forward to them.

But!

Good note! We are still going to be at Lunenburg Market tomorrow. And we will have bagels and spelt loaves for the market on Saturday in Bridgewater. An amazing customer and fellow baker will be manning our table at the Lunenburg Market tomorrow. So even if you don’t see my face we are there!!

Still swingin’ with the punches and slingin’ that dough (hello split shift with hubby to get it all done 😅)

I have had my fair share of escaped animal experiences (hello chasing cows for 6 hours 🥲😅) but nothing really prepares you for the 3am surprise of eyes staring back at you from your back door.

Embracing chaos is still a lesson I’m learning, even after all these years. Things are always bound to go wrong, and especially if you have plans or are solo.

After some chasing, the cows are in a new paddock, and happily resting after their adventure. The sheep and goats are still at large, but they are easier to manage and handle.

Let’s hope I’ve problem solved enough that everyone will stay put while I head to the city this late afternoon! 🤞🏻

Hey hey hey it’s officially fall! 🍁🍂

I know it’s been quiet on here, as we’ve been going full tilt trying to get caught up with things on the farm. We will post more of an update (we had baby piggies!) this weekend.

Today we’re at the Bridgewater Farmer’s Market slinging the dough and sticking you up for all the feasting.

The special is a festive one: Pumpkin Cranberry! 🎃 🎃 with cranberries, pumpkin and some citrus goodness, it’s amazing to use for your leftover turkey sandwiches.

All the usuals are here too; spelt, artisan white, sandwich loaf, 50/50 and cinnamon raisin.

Come brave the wind and dance in the leaves!

One of the kids worked past sunset putting together these bouquets. He’s so excited to bring them to market tomorrow in New Germany.

I planted extra flowers for him this season just so he could create these. It is the most amazing thing seeing what lights up your kids.

So bread and flowers are coming your way tomorrow folks!

There was a mass casualty this morning. The sandwich loaves got way, way WAY too crispy. Somehow, my timer didn’t get set/started and these beautiful loaves got left in the oven longer than needed. It always hurts to have loaves get burnt, but it especially stings when it’s a technology issue. I know my own tiredness played a factor; the last time this happened I was pushing myself past my threshold.

The pigs (and kids and I) will get some extra crispy loaves to munch on this week. The good thing about a farm is that nothing gets wasted
