Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum features a recreated longhouse village similar to those from 1000 years ago, an indoor museum, and three Heritage Log Cabins.

Located in the beautiful surroundings of Longwoods Road Conservation Area, and owned and operated by the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority. Although not built on an actual site, Ska-Nah-Doht Village is based on data collected by archaeologists and from the traditions passed on by First Nations people. Explore the village and outdoor exhibits-- find your way through the palisade maze, take a seat in one of the longhouses, pretend to grind corn into flour in a wooden mortar and pestles, enjoy the view from the lookout. Be sure to visit the Heritage Log Cabins , donated by the local First Nations communities and Ska-Nah-Doht Museum while you are here. The village is wheelchair accessible, weather permitting.

Service Notice:
Large Private Event at Longwoods Road Conservation

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026 a large private event involving heavy traffic will be held at Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

In event of a rain date, the event will take place Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Ska-Nah-Doht Museum will be closed on the respective date.

Some of the last summery days may be upon us, and fall colours should be just around the corner! And with the fall will come winter hours at Ska-Nah-Doht! So, another reminder, this is the last weekend the Museum will be open for 2026- the Village remains open daily.

While the Museum is closed October 9 and October 13 (rain date 14), it will be open throughout the Thanksgiving weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Longwood a Road Conservation Area will be open 9 a.m. to dusk each day. Please note, a large private event with heavy traffic will be taking place October 13 (rain date October 14).

Regular winter hours:
Museum is open Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Village is open daily (pending road conditions), 9 a.m. - dusk.

Only two weekends of summer hours remain at Ska-Nah-Doht Museum! Indoor weekend hours at the Museum include October 3-4, 10-12 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m..

Winter hours begin Thursday, October 15, 2026, when the Museum will be open Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.; the Village remains open daily, from 9 a.m. to dusk.

*Reminder, Ska-Nah-Doht Museum will be closed October 5-9, and 13 (rain date October 14), 2026.

We know many folks may choose to visit us on September 30th, as part of their recognition of Orange Shirt Day or National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We remind you to be considerate of other visitors who may be here as part of their own healing or learning journey.

True reconciliation and healing is not the work of one day- it is an ongoing process. It is the building of relationships based on recognition, respect, and responsibility.

Please take the time to learn and grow throughout the year. While many resources are shared in September you can always access resources shared by groups like the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, Woodland Cultural Centre, and other organizations year round. Many local library systems have Indigenous Reads lists, and CBC Kids has many playlists dedicated to Indigenous Culture as well as Truth and Reconciliation on YouTube that are a great starting point, not just for the young people in your life.

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, or Orange Shirt Day, honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. From the 17th century to the late 1990's there were a total of 136 residential schools across Canada. Indigenous children were removed from their homes and communities to be sent to these 'schools'- many did not return home.

The Orange Shirt Story:
Phyllis Webstad was 6 years old when she went to The Mission for school. Her Grandmother got her a shiny orange shirt to wear but when she arrived she was stripped of her clothes, and never got to see her orange shirt again.

"The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared."
