Update: Thanks for all the input. Decided on Tacos made in Mex right off the bat, but the MRI spat me out by 10:30 and I couldn't wait til they opened, and I used all my data on the highway. STole some wifi from the university and discovered that STella, Two Guys and Bakehouse were all close together and headed across WhoopUp for brekkie at Stella.

When I parked I saw a Latin eaterie across from STella and changed course. Got an Areppa Pabellon at Antojito's (Columbian), accessorized with a latte which, in retrospect, was the wrong drink for the food, but the Areppa was def All That.

Walked to Bakehouse where they have quite an array of sourdoughs. I used to, but years ago found that it wasn't worthwhile for me to make such a variety of bread every day when only 3 of them sold enough in daily quantities, so I gradually moved a lot of our breads onto the CAlendar specials. I kind of envy them that they have enough bread traffic to make 10 different sourdoughs a day. I picked up their sourdough rye which has the same percentage rye as ours (30%) and I look forward to trying it. I dug into the eclair because I HAD to try something and thought it was least likely to age well, and found that it had a chocolate interior (who knew?), which was very tasty but made the eclair overall heavier than I expected. REcommend sharing. The other treats are variations on croissant/danish/laminated doughs and they look excellent and the bakers and I will tear those apart tomorrow morning.

Across the street Two Guys and a Pizza makes a pretty stellar first impression. Smells great and the pizzas look great. I forgot to photograph the menu of the day's pies (4 of them), but I think it was Hawaiian, sweet pepper chicken, a meat/sausage medly and another chicken-y thing that has a white sauce. I munched half a slice , totally stuffing myself before the drive home, and brought the rest back for a friend. A very good pizzeria, and lethbridge is lucky to have them.

Actually all in all lethbridge's downtown looks good. The block called Festival square has a ton of places I'd like to try for eats/drinks in the later part of the day. No scary people around, lots and lots of outdoor tables everywhere, abundant tree shade, interesting looking food and bevvie joints - actually looks like Leth could make an alright weekend getaway, and I haven't thought of it that way since we used to take our teenie tiny children there for the big water park on Mayor Magrath years and years ago.

(original post) In Lethbridge for 10 am appt. Don't know this town at all well. Haven't eaten since last night so when this appt is done I would appreciate any good food recommends you have, TIA

Easy restart: the Raspberry Eclair

Today is the last day of holidays and even thinking makes me tired. Nonetheless, I have prepared Calendar for the next two weeks, starting with an easy one tomorrow - raspberry eclairs.

I got to Saskatoon for a night to visit an aging uncle. All the crops look better than I've seen them in years. Also went to Canmore for a few nights because a long time ago I studied biochemistry at university, which means now I can cash in on friends who have nice stuff like condos in Canmore. It was actually a new development area called Three Sisters, 5 or 10km from old Canmore. Really smokey, but not enough to kill the views - just enough for brilliant sunsets. Again, healthiest crops I've seen in years; the prairie is fertile, and feed is abundant.

Around here, it looks like the Separatists are having a fundraiser this Thursday. Comedians, go figure. So if you've spent your summer thinking "You know what we need? More UCP!" then maybe grab a couple tickets and support the cause. (The ad says there's a "cause", but doesn't say what it is. It's separatism, of course.)

Tomorrow will come too soon! Donuts and sourdough and more! Bakery is re-opening, let's get cooking!
