Wealth Management author Jim Rohn said "Kids ought to have two bicycles; one to rent and one to ride." I've always agreed with this, but not for the capitalistic reasons that Mr. Rohn was thinking. Likewise I enthusiastically concur with your post. Have your things; but consider sharing them at a reasonable cost with others to reduce the burden of ownership on yourself and feel the joy of seeing those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to use or have that thing get that experience at a nominal cost. It's a win-win. But be discerning and pragmatic about the reality of doing this; additional wear and sometimes people suck or accidents happen. To use OP's words; "be honest about what the trade-off is..." And just for full disclosure, for 12 years, I have owned and run a not-for-profit business incubator, assisting primarily food service professionals start or continue their companies. Everything is provided except perishables. You only need a Food Handlers' Certificate to use our facilities. -So I speak from experience when I say that there is great joy in sharing the wealth, but also occasional disappointment when folks take advantage. But we're still in operation, so I would say the balance is in favour of seeing the many, many success stories and grateful clients who go on to their own brick and mortars or the few who realize, without having to spend thousands, that their ideas were not to be. Sometimes those folks are even more thankful, which I guess is even more germane to your post 👍
