The blueberries that were still firm Sept 1 are now rapidly falling to the ground, acting as fertilizer for next year's crop. It is also during September that the fruit buds are forming for that new crop, helped along by the ground water from the August rains and those expected this month. I will now return to the winter-long task of pruning the bushes and cutting back weeds.
Many thanks to all the customers who came for blueberries this year. We actually had more pounds of U-pick than any other year since 1998. I really loved meeting and chatting with you all!
