Have you ever wondered what the difference is between standard American buttercream and Swiss meringue buttercream? 🧁✨

American buttercream is typically much sweeter, thicker, and has a slightly grainier texture because it’s made mainly with butter and powdered sugar. It’s the classic “birthday cake frosting” most people are familiar with.

Swiss meringue buttercream, on the other hand, is silky smooth, light, creamy, and much less sweet. It’s made by gently heating egg whites and sugar before whipping them into a meringue and blending in butter — creating a velvety texture and a more balanced flavor.

At our bakery, we use Swiss meringue buttercream for all of our cakes and cupcakes because we love the smooth finish, rich taste, and less sugary bite 💕
