On March 16th, our family lost our entire home to a fire on the North Line.
We are incredibly grateful to the four fire departments — Kincardine, Tiverton, Ripley, and Teeswater — who responded so quickly. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, nothing could be saved.
Thankfully, no one was home when the fire started. I was in Owen Sound with our kids, and my husband was visiting his mother at Trillium Court Long-Term Care.
Kurtis was able to get our family dogs, Scooby-Doo and Bear, out safely and over to our neighbours Tim Stam and Danielle Stam — we are so thankful for that friendship/Bff.
As the night unfolded, friends called and came by just to stand by our side or ask what we needed. We’re especially thankful to Sarah Nicole and John Goetz, who stepped in immediately, booked us a hotel, and brought us essentials so I didn’t have to think twice about where we’d stay.
Jen Dalcourt and Joey Dalcourt who helped me start the process of replacing documents and were simply there when I needed someone to talk to. The kindness of strangers who reached out to Sarah and Danielle to ask how they could help has left us speechless.
We are incredibly overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and the GoFundMe that Morgan Swift started — she has been my rock through all of this. The kindness of local shops, friends and family from near and far, and even people we don’t know offering clothes, food, and support — we can’t begin to express how thankful we are.
We are currently staying in a hotel and have an amazing support system helping us search for a rental.
A month before the fire, we had booked a trip to the Dominican to take the kids away. Now, more than ever, we need that time together to regroup, breathe, and be with one another as a family.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
With sincere gratitude,
The Cooper Family
