Food Bank Distribution Today | 4:00 - 6:00pm

If you are registered on the Food Bank list, you can stop by today to pick up your basket.

📍 Pick-up is located behind the Band Office in the Cultural Area - 190 Kingmingya Road.

🚫 Please do not drive into the pick-up area. For everyone's safety, please park in the designated parking lot and walk to the distribution area. This is not a drive-through service, and we want to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, and community members waiting in line.

✔️ Check in at the registration desk before receiving your basket.
✔️ Bring your own bag.

Food Bank recipients are eligible for one food basket per month. If you received a food basket last week, you will need to wait until next month's distribution to receive another basket.

Please note: We will not be completing new Food Bank intakes today, as our team will be focused on distribution. If you need to complete an intake, please stop by tomorrow during office hours.

After the Bell Snack Bags are available for all school-aged children. Please check in first so we can keep records of all items distributed.

Menstrual products are also available and may be picked up by anyone who needs them. Please check in with staff when you arrive.

📢 Food Basket Distribution Postponed

Due to the weather, today's Food Basket Distribution has been postponed.

We are hopeful that conditions will improve and that we will be able to proceed with distribution on Monday. We will provide an update and confirmation as soon as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as the safety of our community, staff, and volunteers is our priority.

Yesterday's food distribution was overall a great day, and we were able to help many community members. However, there were a few instances where staff and volunteers were treated disrespectfully, and negative comments were made about the food baskets being provided. Because of that, we feel it is important to share this message.

Our registration desk is there for a reason. Signing in helps us track how many food baskets are distributed, plan appropriately, and ensure we have enough food available to continue serving our community. This process is not optional.

We also ask that everyone waiting in line for registration be respectful of others' personal space and privacy. Please allow the person currently registering the time and space they need to complete the process before approaching the desk.

We would also like to remind everyone that this is a free service made possible by dedicated staff and volunteers who work hard to support community members. No one deserves to be spoken to with disrespect, hostility, or aggression while trying to help others.

As a reminder, while we continue building and expanding this program, we are currently providing approximately 3 to 7 days' worth of food per household. This service is intended to help supplement food needs during difficult times and is not meant to replace a full monthly grocery haul.

We are grateful for the support and appreciation shown by the vast majority of community members who use this service. However, when people act as though our staff owe them something, or make negative comments about the assistance being provided, it can be very discouraging to the people who dedicate their time and energy to helping others.

The safety and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers will always be our top priority. We will not allow them to be verbally abused, harassed, or mistreated while carrying out their duties. If disrespectful or abusive behavior continues, we reserve the right to refuse service.

Please treat our team and fellow community members with the same kindness and respect that you would expect in return. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for everyone.

What an incredible day for our community!

A huge thank you to everyone who came together to make our food hamper distribution such a success. It was amazing to see so many people step up, lend a hand, and support families in Inuvik.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Kirstin, Jason, and Nolan from Food Banks Canada, Dave from the Food Bank Society of the Yukon, Grand Chief Frederick Blake, Mayor Peter Clarkson, the RCMP, Brian Kudlak from Ingamo Hall, Fred Arey from the Aklavik Indian Band, and our volunteers Richard Larocque and Carter Nerysoo for taking the time to be there and help with today’s distribution. Your support, leadership, and willingness to work together means so much to our community.

A special thank you as well to our incredible team—Chief Robert Charlie Tetlichi, Laska Nerysoo, Mary Ann Villeneuve, and Lorraine Greenland—whose hard work behind the scenes helped make today’s distribution possible. We couldn’t do this without your dedication.

This is just the beginning, and we’re excited about the partnerships we’re building and what’s ahead for the Inuvik Food Bank. Together, we can continue strengthening food security and supporting one another.

📦 Our next food hamper distribution, along with our After the Bell snack bags, will take place next Friday from 3:00–6:00 PM. We look forward to seeing everyone then!

Food Basket Pick-Up – Thursday, July 16

Tomorrow from 2:00–4:00 PM, we’ll be welcoming Elders to pick up their food baskets. Please bring a bag!!

We will also be offering After the Bell bags for families with children. One bag will be provided per child, while supplies last.
