The time has come for me to hang up my apron.
I have been putting off posting this news because I just didn’t know how to say it. How do you say goodbye after 5 amazing years?! When I started this little cookie thing in 2018 I had no idea it could turn into what it has. I couldn’t have done any of it without all of you!
With some family changes have come some big decisions. As my youngest child will begin school in the fall and with the purchase of our first home, I began to really think about how I could best support my family in this new chapter.
I did try for a time to supercharge this business to become a consistent source of income, but quickly discovered that doing so sucked all the joy out of it for me. I learned that I LOVE decorating cookies - but I hate trying to make it into a profitable business. And I was burning out.
So in order to preserve the joy of cookie decorating, I started to explore other employment options. Then I saw a Facebook post and everything changed.
I’ve decided to start a career as a carpenter.
I know. Wow. What a weird 180 haha. But in the last two months I have been attending a program called “Women in Carpentry” and learning the skills I need to get into the trades. It’s such an incredible opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up, and I’m not that surprised that I’ve found such joy in it. Being a badass woman in the trades?? Heck yes! 👊🏻
It’s bittersweet to say goodbye. This community has been everything during these child-rearing years. It gave me something to pour my heart into, an identity outside of being “mom”. I am so grateful for this little corner of the internet we’ve cultivated together. I’ve made some lifelong friends and learned so much about myself.
I don’t think it’s goodbye forever. I can definitely see the occasional holiday sale or market or pop-up in the future. I still love decorating cookies and I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon, it’ll just look a little different.
