Sometimes it’s best to let a dream die…I’m finally getting setup to sell equipment. That includes the commercial two fridge and two door freezer, wood bakers table 30”x84”, stainless steel tables, two comp sink, hand sink, a lot of cambros and ingredient bins, bus tubs, speed racks, proofing boards, 18x26 sheet plans, to name a few. The 25kg spiral mixer might be for sale…might. Anyway, have to organize this a bit better and then start listing it all, DM any inquiries. Thanks to for the new door!

Morning! Moving some stuff and also getting ready to sell a few things, commercial fridge and freezer for sure and possibly a convection oven. There might be more to sell, at this point not sure, will post as required. Edited to clarify: only the fridge and freezer are for sale. The oven might be for sale, it depends. No other equipment is for sale at this time.

Currently looking for some part time work, maybe kitchen or baking work, maybe not, my schedule only permits availability on Fridays, with some alternative days on Monday, again depends. Let me know! My next life coming back as an electrician….

Ending this chapter of Shift the same way it began! We’re going to take a while and think on this and see what the future might hold. Anyone on the outside looking in, letting you know the scene for “looking for a small scale food industry space or setup” is in general, a disaster in Sudbury. I’m not sure what it’s like in other cities but here, unless you’re paying out the nose for renovations and contractors, you’re stuck with a work space that might be comprised of electrical wiring installed during World War 2, plumbing that is older than the bathrooms on the Titanic or maybe offered a space of several thousand square feet that is way too much for a small scale business with one or two employees. There’s not many options. Run for the hills if you find the renovation work that you can complete yourself is a grade above any work that a contractor is asking money for. These are a few of the reasons all of this s**t takes so long to figure out and complete. And sorry, we’re not scaling up to have many employees…it all becomes a catch 22!

Behind this door might be Shift Bakehouse. I say ‘might’ because it’s become routine that this project gets side tracked by life in general or postponed by contractors ghosting me. If you know of anyone that can help for the following, please let us know (these are big projects that are most likely not for one person and require a team):

1. electrical service upgrade and panels
2. Drywall

Someone up there must be watching and giving us some much needed good luck as our equipment still appears to function normally: it was nice to turn on the mixer again, even though it was empty. We’re not out of the woods yet so don’t be surprised if you see another post asking to trade morning buns in exchange for drywalling or building a counter lol. -JE

A lot of things have changed and gone wrong in the last three years, so many things that it’s hard to keep track of. One things for sure: the original plan we had is no longer on the table, we’re now open to sharing ideas or hearing what if anything, other bakers or those wanting a food prep area might be interested in? (Shared space?) Our equipment is sitting here collecting dust, we would like to use it! But we also can’t afford to spend a year training bakers. We have a couple months to decide to what we’re doing: if we start to sell off our equipment, we are unlikely to return to the baking scene…

Thank you to everyone who has helped so far, to keep it all positive when the bakery is in the weeds like this. Hoping that we can turn it around in 2024, a new plan and design coming up. Special thanks to Craig W, Dan G at Centreline Architecture, Al's Plumbing And Heating Ltd., and my wife who has been so patient through all of this. Without them, Shift Bakehouse wouldn’t be. Maybe one day we can laugh about what a s**t show this has been. - Jason

Hi folks! We’ve had a more than a few requests for baking (which is great!) but unfortunately we’re still neck deep in renovations and had to change a few things along the way due to some set backs so we’re not in position to fulfill any orders at this time. We’re putting alot of effort into designing our place, trying to ensure its survivability, and planning things so we can avoid being burnt out. On a lighter note we truly do miss baking for you! Side note two: we found this cool old Sudbury map/business listing under the last section of flooring that was removed. We asked around and others have estimated the paper to be from the 1920s.

Another time capsule piece found in the walls (empty walls) at our place: cork top and liner to a dairy bottle? Google says Standard Dairy was on Victoria Street back in the day, not far from where we are. Or where we will be located when we open in 2028 😂
