The Roads Department will be closing 11th Street between Kettle River Drive and 72nd Avenue Friday, October 9th from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for tree removal. The road will be open for local traffic only. Please use caution and obey all traffic signs to keep crews and the public safe.

The Electrical Department, working with Telus, will be closing the northside of Donaldson Drive (One Way Street) at Central Avenue, Wednesday, October 7, 2026 from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for pole replacement. Advance Polling for the 2026 City of Grand Forks Municipal Election will be held tomorrow, Wednesday October 7, from 8am-8pm at the Seniors Center in City Park. General Voting Day is Saturday, October 17, 8am-8pm, at the Perley School Gymnasium. Please bring two pieces of ID, one which must have your residential address and one which must have your signature when voting at either session.

UBCM meetings continued this week, with Mayor Baker meeting with Minister of Health, Ravi Kahlon. Discussions focused on the value of the Boundary Hospital, including the importance of keeping the emergency department open without interruption, the addition of three medical practitioners in the past year, and ongoing conversations about the need for a CT scanner in Grand Forks.

Mayor Baker also met with Premier David Eby to discuss infrastructure funding for major capital projects and the importance of continuing to advocate at the federal level for the forestry sector. In addition, he provided an update on the success of the City’s physician recruitment and retention strategy.

Mayor Baker is attending the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention this week in Vancouver. Yesterday, alongside MLA Donegal Wilson, Mayor Baker met with BC Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs, Christine Boyle, to discuss important housing priorities for our community. Key topics included the need for more housing options, with a particular focus on increasing affordable housing for seniors.

Mayor Baker also met with Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar to discuss the vital role forestry plays in our community. The conversation highlighted the local mill and the significant number of direct and indirect jobs the forestry industry provides.

The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention is taking place this week in Vancouver, bringing together local and provincial government officials to discuss shared priorities and opportunities for communities across British Columbia.
