These beauties are another example of just how committed I am to my customers.
When someone trusts me to be part of their special day, I take that responsibility seriously. No matter what life throws my way, I will always do everything I can to make sure the order they’ve been counting on is ready and exactly what they hoped for.

Just 2 days post-op, and after spending the better part of my entire day in the ER getting pumped full of fluids for severe dehydration, I came straight home and headed into the kitchen to get these gorgeous mini bridal shower cakes ready for the next day.

Would I recommend this recovery strategy? Absolutely not.

Could I leave my customer hanging?
Also absolutely not.

Thankfully, there is no way I could have pulled this off without my incredible friend, Holly from One Smart Cookie By Holly She showed up early, got everything prepped and organized, and basically made it possible for me to waddle into the kitchen and hit the ground running. (Well… more like slowly shuffling, but you get the idea.)

And can we talk about mini cakes for a second?

Pinterest has been out here spreading lies. Tiny cakes are NOT easier. They’re not “just little cakes.” They’re tiny little stress nuggets that require twice the patience, three times the precision, and approximately 47 deep breaths per cake.

But despite the dehydration, the exhaustion, and my ongoing feud with miniature desserts, these turned out absolutely beautiful…. and seeing them all finished made every second worth it!!!
Aren’t they soooo cute!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to continue pretending I learned my lesson.

This cake gave me a nervous breakdown. 😅
For real.

I’ve made cakes like this hundreds of times. At this point, I could probably do one in my sleep, with one eye open and a coffee in my hand.

But this cake?
This cake had other plans.

The letters and I entered into a toxic relationship almost immediately. Nearly every single one broke coming out of the mold. I remade them once. Then twice. Then three times.
Then a fourth time.
By the end, I knew those letters more intimately than some of my own family members.

Finally, after much suffering, determination, and language not suitable for Facebook, I got them all finished and onto the cake.

Delivered it.

Drove away.

Felt relieved.

Then my customer gently reminded me…

“Katy… weren’t those letters supposed to be GOLD?”

😳

Friends.

I had delivered the cake with completely white letters.
So back home I flew like a woman trying to outrun her own stupidity.
I thought, “No problem. I’ll just carefully remove the letters, paint them gold, and put them back.”

That was a lie.

As I removed the letters, they took the buttercream with them. Every letter created a bigger mess than the one before it. What started as a simple fix quickly turned into a full cake exorcism.
Before long, I was stripping the entire cake and starting completely over from the ground up.

All because I forgot one tiny little detail:
The letters were supposed to be gold.

The good news? The cake turned out beautiful, the customer was happy, and nobody knew the emotional rollercoaster this cake had put me through.

The bad news?

If I ever suggest making molded letters again, I need someone to gently remind me of this day and take the mold away from me. 😂🎂💀

—-I will always try to go to infinity and beyond for my customers.

Rich chocolate cupcake filled with marshmallow fluff, topped with chocolate Rocky Road buttercream, mini marshmallows, chocolate chunks, and crunchy nut pieces.
