Here's round 2 of how to transform a 100+ year old bank into a donut cafe. I'm thinking I should've hide video cameras around the building. This could have been a mini series. Maybe I could call it how to slowly kill your husband with stress and overwork. Nah, let's stick to the first idea.

It's always kinda cool to see the transformations of buildings or to look back and see changes. We like to keep things a little secret, but since we are getting close and we are all a little over this wait. It's time to share.

Where it started in November of 2024.

Some days we get really discouraged. We had hoped it would be an easy transition from the original store to the new store. When we first got the building we hoped to open on our 5th Anniversary November 28, 2025. (1 year reno). Then we thought, ok in the New Year. Then June, then September, then Halloween. Now I have told everyone no if, ands or buts November 7th (Christmas market day). A few still laugh at me. I pull my mom voice out and demand it. Well 2 years in to renos, nearly 2 months closed and fingers crossed.

So here we are, I want to start sharing some of what our Donut Man has done. Almost entirely by himself over these 2 years. From gutting the building right down to the 100 year old brick and building it back up to today's codes.

As we try to tidy things up around The Donut Man lot over the following days, we have a lot of wood. This is all from Shipping crates. It will be going to the dump.

So if anyone is interested in any of it, please come help yourself to it at will. This is the broken down or empty ones near or around the dumpster. They could be great for building small projects, burning for wiener roasts, Shipping annoying kids to grandparents, or hinding siblings favorite item Just to p**s them off. Use you imagination. I just need help getting it gone (doesn't fit well in the back of a jeep Cherokee).

Please do not take any the obviously still have items in them.

Sneak peak, moving some furniture in. Progress, getting closer! This is exciting and a big part of what we were waiting on.
Few more things, black iron work, a little more plumbing and electrician, the ceiling tiles and we should be almost ready.

A note about donations and sponsorships.

Thos is something hard for me to address as we are big on supporting our community. We know it is the time when teams and groups are in need.

Unfortunately we are not able to sponsor or donate at this time. We have been closed for over a month. We have about 3 more weeks of being closed. This mean no funds coming in. Renovating the new location is costing us a lot. We are trying to keep as many of our staff working as we can. We still have bills and expenses to pay.

Our merchandise and gift cards are all packed away in storage right now, so we can not offer them.

We will get back to supporting where we can as soon as we can. Thank you for your support and understanding. We appreciate you all.

Today we had a whole group of extra workers show up to help us. They brought good luck and positivity.

In many cultures the Ladybug symbolizes good luck, protection, and positive change.

We found a whole little nest of them today, with several others hanging around. I believe thos means things are on the upswing for us.

We had a few more set backs today and to say the least it felt like a kick to the gut.

We really hoped to open in Oct. 2nd or 10th. That is definitely not happening. Some of the engineers have made some more changes during inspections and discussions today and new changes have to be made.

The we have a few other construction delays. So we have our fingers crossed to open on my birthday the 17th. Although that is a BIG wish. It will likely be closer to a Halloween opening.

This is absolutely devastating to all of us at TDM. It will be 2 months closed. We had to cancel weddings we promised to do, birthdays people celebrate with us yearly and our staff has been without income. Not to mention we are paying bills still.

We hope and pray you stand strong with us. We promise, it will be amazing when we do finish. We can't wait to see you all. Share a coffee, a donut and catch up.

I even cheated today and ate a famous chain store donut today. Someone slap me! I need real coffee again.

UPDATE TIME:

It's like we are build the original shop all over again. Delay after delay, push back opening again and again.

So I'm just gonna say it. At this point, we have no idea when we will open. We had hope Mid September, that has come and is going. We hoped Oct 2nd, that's not looking good either.

James is wearing himself down. Pretty sure he has aged 10 years. Our drive is dwindling, our excitement is burning out, we miss our customers. We feel like we are letting everyone down.

So there it is. Anyways, here is a sneak peak of a little something that just got put in this week.

Our counters are being shipped from Vancouver this week. (Finally)!

On Tuesday there will be a crane on Hammond helping to lift the roof top units on. So YES we will have proper air and heating in this location.

We hope that we can start moving the equipment inside this week, so you no longer have to look at the donut mam storage yard. Plus ATB can have their parking spaces back.

I think that is all for now. Oh...wait very important info. October 1st some of our staff will be taking their bartending course....because we are getting licensed!
