On May 24th, Betty will be celebrating her 90th birthday! 🥳
In her own words, “we opened Betty’s Pies and Tarts out of our home in 1986. I wanted to create something of my own! I was a self-taught baker and learned along the way. The butter tarts were my favourite to bake... Every day, no days off. I can truly say, I loved my job every day! We retired in 2000. So happy that the bakeshop and legacy continues.”
When Betty retired, Nancy purchased and re-opened the business in 2001, moving it to Port Hope, then again to our current location on County Road 2 in 2004. In 2016, the current owner Ali bought the business. She started working for Nancy at 15 years old!
We always have lots of people that come in and tell us about their memories going to Betty’s home bakery in Garden Hill and how it was so special to them - whether they grew up in the area, were visiting family or were passing through. We are so grateful for our community and the support you’ve given us throughout the decades!
We love hearing all of the stories, celebrations and the traditions that Betty’s Pies and Tarts has been apart of.
If you have any special memories or stories about Betty or visiting her shop in Garden Hill, we would love to hear them in the comments! 😊
