When your mind starts racing, try this.

Look around and notice:
5 things you can see.
4 things you can feel.
3 things you can hear.
2 things you can smell.
1 thing you can taste.

It sounds simple.
Because it is.

And sometimes simple is exactly what we need when our thoughts start running away with us.

Have you ever met the 3am version of yourself?

She’s a fascinating person.
She’s solving problems that don’t exist yet.
Replaying conversations that happened three years ago.
Writing speeches she’ll never give.
Planning for disasters that may never arrive.
By morning, nobody sees any of that.

They see the capable version.
The one getting things done.
The one holding everything together.
But carrying all that thinking is exhausting.

A lot of women become very good at functioning while quietly carrying far too much internally.

From the outside:
everything looks fine.

But internally?

Their mind never fully switches off.

And carrying that much mental noise every day is exhausting.

Most people can’t see how much you’re carrying internally.

That’s something I hear all the time.

Constant thinking.
Replaying.
Planning.
Worrying.
Mentally rehearsing conversations that haven’t even happened yet.

And after a while…

you stop noticing how exhausting that actually is.

You just learn to live with it.

But constantly carrying that much mentally takes a toll.

Overthinking isn’t usually solved by more thinking.

Especially when your system has got used to staying “on”.

A lot of women already know what they “should” do.

The problem usually isn’t information.

It’s that their mind never settles long enough to feel calm, clear or emotionally rested.

That’s often why trying harder mentally doesn’t change much.

This work helps calm the patterns underneath the constant mental noise.

Mentally carrying tomorrow before today has even finished.

Your body stops.
But your mind doesn’t.

A lot of women I work with look calm on the outside while carrying a huge amount internally.

And after a while, constantly feeling mentally “on” becomes exhausting.

I saw this today and had to share.
Because so many midlife women I speak to are incredibly hard on themselves internally.

They feel the overwhelm.
The overthinking.
The exhaustion .
The emotional reactions.

And forget to stop and feel the beauty, capability and love that others see.

Sometimes we become so used to living under pressure that we stop seeing ourselves.

You wake up at 1am…and you just know.You’re not going straight back to sleep.You lie there for a bit…thinking you might....

You’re not going straight back to sleep.

You lie there for a bit…
thinking you might.

But your mind’s already running away with
One thing…
then something else…

and before you know it
you’re properly awake.

You check the time.
Which never helps.

And by the morning
you just feel… done.
Like you haven’t really slept at all.

This is Monty 🫎

He hangs in my office and makes me smile every time I look at him.

That’s it.

No purpose.
No productivity.
Just… something that feels good.

And it made me realise how much of our day can get filled with things that feel necessary…
but not actually enjoyable.

I think we forget how much the small things matter.

The things that lift you, even for a moment.
