september 1st officially marked 4 years of our storefront! 🎈

every year, august feels like this strange mix of wrapping things up and starting all over again. summer is coming to an end, but behind the scenes we’re already fully into planning mode. booking our cleaners to deep clean the entire storefront, refreshing decor, revising the window mural, working through staff scheduling, team meetings, menu changes, ordering, organizing and getting everything ready for another season.

there’s always so much that happens before september 1st that most people never really see.

for us, september has always felt more like the start of a new year than january 1st. it’s when we reset the space, reset our goals, look back at what worked, what didn’t, what we’ve learned and what we want the next year of made by akb to look like.

and somehow… 4 years have already passed since we opened these doors.

there have been so many versions of this little shop over the years. different menus, different decor, different teams, new ideas, long days, stressful days, really good days and a lot of moments that have reminded us why we started in the first place.

running a small business comes with a lot that never makes it to instagram, but getting to watch made by akb continue to grow, change and become part of people’s routines, celebrations and memories makes all of it worth it.

to everyone who has visited, ordered a cake, stopped in for coffee, brought a friend, shared a post, left a review, celebrated something with us or simply continued to support us over the years — thank you. genuinely.

4 years flew by faster than we could have imagined.

we came in HOT with our storefront anniversary falling right on september 1st which is always a little chaotic because the 1st of the month means deep cleaning, decor changes, scheduling, payroll, team meetings, a full menu switch + somehow keeping the pastry case looking cute through all of it 🫠

we’re fully stocked in-store through the end of august, but once a flavour sells out, it’s officially gone until september 1st… when we launch our newly branded cake cans 👀

part of our rebrand meant giving this akb staple a little upgrade — better packaging, safety-sealed cans, and a whole new look. same layered cake moment, just elevated.

what started as made BY akb very quickly became something I couldn’t fully take credit for anymore because the truth is, i’m nothing without my team.

every early morning, every late night, every chaotic saturday, every massive order, every last-minute rush, every pastry made, cake decorated, coffee poured, customer helped, mess cleaned and problem solved… there are so many moving pieces behind this little pink storefront that people never get to see.

and behind every single one of them is a team that continues to show up.

you guys have watched this business grow, change, get busier, become more demanding and reach milestones that once felt so far away. you’ve carried the weight with me on the exhausting days and celebrated with me on the really good ones.

there is something incredibly emotional about knowing that an idea I once started on my own has grown into a place where so many talented, hardworking people now leave their own mark every single day.

AKB may have started with me, but it has never grown because of me alone.

harjot & jag, but make it soft, romantic + a little whimsical 🦢🪷🍄‍🟫

another look at this four-tier wildflower wedding cake because there were way too many details for one post. pastel blooms, cascading florals, delicate swans + the dreamiest little touches throughout — everything came together so effortlessly.

we wanted this cake to feel romantic without feeling too traditional, whimsical without being overdone, and completely at home in their beautiful reception space.

one of the coolest parts of having a storefront is never really knowing who’s going to walk through the door 💿

this summer, we had NINJA stop by akb + order a few cakes from us, which was such a fun little moment for the team. 🛬

for anyone who grew up listening to punjabi music, you probably know him from songs like “jinne saah” and “aadat.” getting to meet someone whose music has been around for years and then realizing they’re also incredibly humble, friendly + easygoing made the whole experience even better. 🎵

we’ve had such a busy summer at akb, so moments like this are always a nice reminder of how many different people our little shop gets to bring through the doors.

very grateful for every person who chooses to visit us, whether you’ve been coming for years, found us last week, or just happened to stop in while you were in the city.

and by workin’ we mean… the busiest summer we’ve ever had at akb. weekends have been absolutely wild, thousands of pastries + cakes have left our doors, the café has been nonstop, and somehow you guys keep finding room for one more sweet treat 🤭
