Warm Up Your Soup Season with Sourdough Bread Bowls! 🍲✨

​With the cozy autumn weather here, nothing hits the spot quite like a warm bowl of soup, stew, or chili. Want to elevate your cozy meals? You can easily turn a classic sourdough loaf into a delicious, edible bread bowl!

​Here is how to do it in 3 easy steps:
​Slice & Scoop: Take a fresh round sourdough loaf (boule) and slice a small lid off the top. Carefully hollow out the inside with a small serrated knife or your hands, leaving about a ½-inch to ¾-inch wall along the bottom and sides so it stays sturdy. (Pro tip: Save the soft bread you hollowed out for dipping or making homemade croutons!

​Toast to Lock in Flavor (Optional but Recommended): Place your hollowed-out loaf and lid on a baking sheet. Lightly brush the inside with olive oil or melted garlic butter, then bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes until lightly crisp. This extra step seals the inside wall so rich soups won't soak through!

​Fill & Enjoy: Ladle your favorite hot soup—like cream of broccoli, potato bacon, or hearty beef stew—right into the warm sourdough bowl. Top with fresh herbs or cheese, put the lid on top, and dig in!

📢 A QUICK UPDATE FROM SMILEZ BAKERY & HOMESTEAD! 🌾✨

Before we officially launch our full October Sourdough Menu visual on Sunday, we want to share a few important operational updates with our amazing community!

Over the past few months, we’ve been testing the waters with different pricing, formats, and schedules to see what works best for our small bakery and our customers. Our ultimate dream is to grow and build toward opening our very own storefront bakery shop one day. We know we still have a long way to go to make that happen, but every small step counts!
In the meantime, we are looking to move locations! As we navigate this transition and refine our sourdough operations to keep everything running smoothly, we are making a few operational changes starting this October:

🚗 Designated Local Pickup Spots Only: Because we are looking to move locations, we are no longer offering home doorstep pickups. If you prefer to pick up your order rather than pay for delivery, we will be scheduling convenient local pickup spot meetups to be confirmed upon order.

🗓️ Flexible Daily Ordering: You can now place your order for delivery on any day of the week with 24 hours advance notice for sweet treats & harvest pies and 36 hours advance notice for sourdough breads & rolls so we can properly ferment and bake your order fresh.

🍪 Lowered Pricing on Key Items: We’ve reduced the base price of our customer-favorite Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Sourdough Cookies to $18 per half dozen (loaded with chips inside and pressed on top!). We’ve also lowered our Sourdough Starter Packs (Jar & Guide) to just $5.

🍁 New Fall Additions: Look out for our brand-new Soft Sourdough Dinner Rolls ($7/dozen), and two new gourmet cookie flavors: Blueberry Turnover Sourdough Cookies ($22/half dz) and Caramel Stuffed Chocolate Chip Sourdough Cookies ($22/half dz).

🚚 Flat Delivery & FREE Delivery Threshold: Local delivery is now a simple flat $5.00 fee per order under $50 (no per-item delivery markups!). Plus, all orders of
$50 or more receive FREE Local Delivery.

👵👴 Senior Discount (Seniors 65+): Seniors 65+ can choose between FREE Local Delivery or 10% OFF on orders under $50, and automatically get BOTH 10% OFF & FREE Delivery on orders $50+!
