Prairie Toons Orchard & Bakery Celebrating 100 years of family farming, we honour our roots with sustainable agriculture, ethical livestock raising and farm fresh food.

Join us as we nurture the land, create wholesome food and carry our family's legacy forward. We also have alpacas, chickens, peacocks, three dogs and a number of cats on our farm. Our chickens are free-range, grain fed and provide us with eggs. Our peacocks are free-range as well, and provide us with beautiful feathers. Our alpacas share with us their fleeces which are sheared annually in the spring here on our farm and this is turn is made into many different products, including cozy socks!

Pear 1 and Pear 2 … two different varieties and two different ages. Waiting and waiting, year after year for a pear harvest to try making pear jam and all things pears! Baby tree only has a couple of blossoms.

Upon closer looking… we have two kinds of bees busy pollinating my big pear!!! Sorry for the bad video, they were moving fast!

Rhubarb patch is coming along. We have 40 plants altogether and gave them a generous soak yesterday. Next, I will fertilizer them and then water some more! We need a freezer full of chopped rhubarb to ensure our supply for making strawberry RHUBARB pies and jam!! And hopefully, some rhubarb jelly!

Yesterday, we planted more potatoes for fun! Yukon Gold cause we love baked potatoes. And…. Violet Queen, which has purple skin with purple flesh. And.. Red Thumb, which looks to have a pink flesh. Can’t wait to try these! It was another 86 hills!!!

PEROGIES! Whenever possible, we use our own potatoes to create our delicious potato cheese potatoes. Our perogies are available at the Estevan Farmers Market, 8:30am - 1pm until October long weekend and available year round as well.

We also enjoy eating potatoes throughout the winter - fries, mashed, cubed for breakfast, scalloped … all things potatoes!!

The chick that had started hatching has arrived, with two more currently working on their hatching. The chick is very tired - it chirps a bit, moves a bit and then rests. Each chick has to get through the inner membrane of the egg shell and then get through the hard outer shell before using their legs to push themselves out.
