Most people get excited for Friday.

I get excited for Wednesday. 😂

Wednesday and Thursday are my weekend, and there is something incredibly satisfying about knowing everyone else is heading off to work while I don’t have to clean a single Airbnb today.

Of course, I live with children, grandchildren, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks…

So calling it a day off may be slightly misleading.

But nobody is handing me a cleaning checklist, and that’s good enough for me. 😂

Mom was a whole person long before cancer ever became part of her story.

She was funny.

She could drive me crazy.

She had opinions.

She had habits we all knew.

She was Grandma.

She was Gigi.

And she was simply Mom to me.

Sometimes when someone dies from cancer, it feels like the disease becomes the headline of their entire life.

I don’t ever want that to happen to hers.

Cancer is how she died.

It isn’t who she was. ❤️

Sometimes I think the funniest thing about having The Drowsy Hen is that most of it gets squeezed into the cracks of an already very full life.

I go clean Airbnbs all day, come home to kids, grandkids, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and whatever fresh nonsense is happening here…

and somewhere in between all of that, I make things.

Not because I have endless free time.

Because I genuinely love doing it.

The Drowsy Hen has slowly become this little piece of my life that is completely mine.

And I’m pretty proud of what it’s becoming. ❤️

There’s something pretty incredible about watching your daughter become a mom. ❤️

I spent years being Kassandra’s mom — raising her, worrying about her, watching her grow up.

And now I get to watch her do all of those same things with her own babies.

Silas is eight months old already, and seeing the way he looks at his mama makes my heart pretty happy. 🥹❤️

I raised her.

Now I get to watch her raise them.

One of my favourite things is making something I probably never would’ve thought to make on my own.

I stare at it for a while.

We’ve already sold 11 hats!

Honestly, I’m pretty damn excited about that. 🥹

Some have already been picked up, others are finished and waiting to head to their new homes, and more are being made.

But the part that matters most?

Those first 11 hats have already raised $110 for Lorraine. ❤️

I had no idea what kind of response this fundraiser would get when I started it, so seeing people order, share and help spread the word has been pretty incredible.

And we’re only getting started. 💗💜

Hats are $20 each, with $10 from every hat going directly to Lorraine.

Grief isn’t always crying.

Sometimes it’s laughing at something and immediately knowing exactly what Mom would’ve said.

Sometimes it’s seeing something she’d love.

Sometimes it’s wanting to tell her something completely stupid.

Those moments still catch me.

Because when somebody was part of your everyday life for most of your life, your brain doesn’t suddenly stop including them just because they’re gone.

And honestly?

I don’t think I want mine to. ❤️

Every once in a while I make something that looks better finished than it did in my head.

And THAT is a good fu***ng feeling. 😂

Because there’s definitely an opposite version of this story where I open the press, stare at what I’ve done and quietly reconsider all of my life choices.

Thankfully, today wasn’t that day. 🖤
