18!!! Just like that!!!

Aanya is officially an adult 🥺 She celebrated with her friends a few days ago—red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting with simple buttercream flowers (pretty, and simple). And then with us on her birthday, she went for her usual chocolate coffee cake with vanilla SMBC, this time in a vintage style. Can you tell her current favourite colour is burgundy?

Aanya, happy birthday my darling . You’ve grown into the most beautiful, kind, funny, genuinely good human—and I’m so, so proud of you. Watching you become who you are has been the best part of everything. We love you!!!

I used to be that mom who got way too excited about themed birthday parties — the cake, the colours, the sweet table, all of it.

But as kids get older, those kinds of parties just fade away.

So when my soon-to-be 18-year-old asked if I could host her prom brunch, I was like YES! What colour? Pink? Done!

Her friends came over and got ready at our place, and for a second it felt like those old party days again. It actually reminded me so much of her 8th birthday when I turned the basement into a little spa and did hair and makeup with help of family and friends

Same feeling, just a different phase in motherhood.

Also kind of special for me, because I never had a prom growing up in Sri Lanka — so this was my version of it too.

Sri Lankan street food night at home!

Put together some favourites—pol (coconut) sambol with butter, kunisso (shrimp) sambol over cream cheese, hot butter cuttlefish, and kadala (chickpea) fry.

Paired it with a coconut arrack and passion fruit cocktail that came out pretty nice

Then for dinner, we had chicken kottu roti, pol roti, and a Moratuwa pork curry (completely forgot to take pictures… we were too busy eating 😅).

Nothing fancy, just a lot of flavour and a fun night cooking and sharing good food.

I’ve known you since Grade 1, and as teenagers we shared our moms’ home-cooked lunches during school . Years later as adults, we bonded over our love for baking and cake decorating.

Now seeing you as one of the Top 20 finalists on Season 1 of MasterChef Sri Lanka feels so surreal!

So proud of you, Tammy!! Cheering you on every step of the way

We checked out Brisket Daddy in Ajax and it absolutely delivered. We tried the brisket sandwich, pork belly sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and the cornbread — and every bite was unreal. As you can tell one of us couldn’t wait till the picture was taken 🙂The meat was incredibly succulent and full of flavour, and the buns and cornbread were moist and fluffy.

If you’re a BBQ lover, this is a must-try. So good to see amazing local businesses bringing this quality to the community. We’ll definitely be back for more!
