A few of my customers expressed their concerns about me since I had stopped posting on social media and responding to WhatsApp messages over the past two years.
All is well. Over the past two years when everything went silent, I was serving as the president of the Zonta Club of Nassau.
Anyone close to me knows that before I make any vital decisions, I spend time in prayer and fasting to seek the face of God for His guidance and direction. The bible declares in Proverbs 3:5-6 that we should trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding, in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our paths.
Prior to being officially installed as the president of the Zonta Club of Nassau, I sought God to find out what the focus should be during my term. He said to focus on the youth.
During my presidency, we chartered four junior Clubs: two junior high school Z Clubs and two senior high school Z Clubs. In total, we had about 200 Golden Z Club (University of The Bahamas) and Z Club Members (Junior and Senior High School Students). It was truly a rewarding experience to see the smiles on the faces of our students and to hear them share their experiences in the Club and how it transformed their lives.
I was not only serving as a president over the past two years, but I continued to serve as an advisor in a Junior Achievement Company. I enjoy mentoring our youth and seeing them flourish in programs such as Junior Achievement that give them a voice and an opportunity to grow in a safe environment.
When others tend to focus on the issues in society, I seek to find solutions. I use my time and talent to mentor, train, motivate and encourage others. I believe in making the world better than how I met it.
While serving as the president of my Club, it was impossible to work in a full-time job, operate a home-based business and be the primary caregiver for my mom who is over 80 years old. Imagine taking care of a senior while having to work a full-time job, lead an active non-profit organization and manage a business amongst other things.
At one point, I was inundated with over 100 messages, and I realized that I needed to take a break from the business and focus on my mom, presidency and make a positive impact in the community.
Sometimes we get so caught up in making money that we lose focus of the assignment that God has given us to transform lives for His honor and glory. Remember that obedience is better than sacrifice.
God was faithful throughout my presidency and He truly showed up on time all of the time! He is an on time God! When God gives you a vision He is obligated to give you the provision that you need to execute your assignment.
It was not easy, but God gave me the strength and grace to make it each day. We must remember that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
I missed the interactions with my customers and making their special occasions extra special with the dessert(s) of their choice.
More Than Just Cakes is more than a home-based bakery and a business to generate profits. It is a ministry that inspires, encourages and motivates others.
There were times that I was conversing with customers via WhatsApp or a phone call to encourage them or let them vent on the issue(s) that they were facing in their life. A few apologized and said, “Sorry for keeping you so long, I don’t want to burden you with my issues.” I told them it is not a problem, continue. I understand that a lot of people are going through and they need to vent at times, release their frustrations and disappointments. We must be so careful and sensitive how we treat others. Some persons only need a listening ear to get a sense of peace and feeling that God has people out there who care about others and are willing to assist in any way possible.
