Did you realise our sprouted bread recipe is inspired by the Essenes?
It's believed the Essenes were a small sect living near the Dead Sea from the second century BC to the first century AD. Known for their mysticism, they faced challenges trying to avoid the public eye. Their diet was mainly lacto-vegetarian, featuring raw foods and a unique sprouted bread known as Essene or Manna bread. This bread was made by sprouting grains, then mashing and "baking" them in the desert sun.
Some 2,000 years later, we are imitating the Essenes' simple bread making recipe. We carefully take a variety of grains, activate, sprout, grind and shape into loaves. Due to food standard regulations, we don't use rocks and the sun as was once done. We oven-bake slowly at relatively low temperatures, which helps preserve precious vitamins and minerals. The result is nutrient dense modern day Essene-style breads made in the purest form without any additives or preservatives. They are naturally sweet, tasty, easily digestible and are actually pretty good for you.
