More than cake…… it’s about being seen, included and unadulterated enjoyment…

I received an email this week that hit me right in the feels and reminded me exactly why I do what I do. ❤️

Admittedly, I don't bake much anymore. These days I'm focused on creating products so families can bake safely at home. But every now and then someone reaches out with a special request, and this was one I simply couldn't say no to.

A lovely lady contacted me because she wanted to surprise her mum for her 93rd birthday. What an incredible milestone.

She told me her mum's favourite cake was Caramel Mud Cake, but the guests all had different allergies and dietary requirements. She wanted everyone to be able to enjoy dessert together.

I told her, "Leave it with me. I've got this."

A few cupcakes, plenty of caramel and a whole lot of love later, they were on their way.

That evening, I received the most beautiful email.

She told me her mum had the best birthday.

She said everyone loved the cupcakes and couldn't believe they were allergy friendly.

She even admitted she was completely floored that they tasted like "normal" cake, despite everything that wasn't in them. She joked that magic must have been involved.

But it was one sentence that stopped me in my tracks.

"Everyone felt seen."

Seen.
Included.
Together.

I don't think she realised just how much those words meant to me.

Because that's what this has always been about.

Not just baking cakes.
Not just replacing ingredients.
But making sure no one feels like they're missing out.

Making sure everyone can sit around the same table, eat the same cake and simply enjoy celebrating together.

Sometimes I get so caught up in running the business that I forget the impact something as simple as a cupcake can have.

Then an email like this arrives and reminds me.

So to the beautiful lady who sent me that email... thank you. 🤗

You reminded me why I started Wilderflower & Wanderberries.

You reminded me why I created Yummy AF Bakes.

And you reminded me that what feels ordinary to me can mean everything to someone else. ❤️

If you were visiting our store 6 years ago - you will know I was a train wreck of joy and excitement as the impending arrival of my Grandy was imminent. 6 years later..... 6 fabulous years of her sassy, delightful and loving soul, 6 birthday cakes, and soooooo many memories!!! And like my own children, she has chosen her themed cake every year, this year of course - Rainbow Unicorn!

Yesterday we celebrated six incredible years of our beautiful Grandy. 💛🦄

I honestly don't know where those six years have gone.

It feels like yesterday we were waiting for her to arrive earth side. COVID restrictions meant we couldn't be there the way we wanted, and I remember being an emotional mess, waiting for the call that she was finally here.

Fast forward six years...

Six birthdays.
Six cakes.
Countless memories.

Every year has been another chance to celebrate the beautiful little girl who stole our hearts from the very beginning.

Watching her celebrate yesterday, surrounded by family, friends and so much love, filled my heart in ways I can't describe.

Moments like these are exactly why Yummy AF Bakes exists.

Because every child deserves to stand proudly beside their birthday cake, make beautiful memories with the people they love, and enjoy every single bite, without feeling different.
