Do you know that studies all over the world have found significant benefits for both men and women in being married rather than staying single or cohabiting?
For example - men have MORE s*x when married, LIVE longer, get PROMOTED at work faster, have LOWER rates of depression and are LESS likely to be victims of crime.
There may be lots of reasons for these statistics but the reality remains that the public commitment of marriage WORKS.

Mort Fertel makes an interesting point in his blog about relationships. All of us in a marriage have a mental list of things we would most like to change about our partners. They may be minor irritations or major flaws (in our eyes!). 'If only THEY would change their ways', we think, 'our relationship would be so much better'.
You may be spot on, but its not gonna happen. No one is less likely to change your partner than you, especially if your relationship is tricky anyway. The reality is, your loved one already knows numerous ways in which you would like them to change, and probably wants the same changes themselves.
So how does it happen. Stop looking at them, and look in the mirror. What is it about your own character that needs some work? How can you be more considerate, caring, loving - less irritating! YOU change first - and it might be that they will change in response. But the only person in a marriage who can make improvements is you to you.
