Yerrabingin means 'we walk together'. We are the creators of Australia's first native rooftop farm located in the heart of Sydney.

We offer Indigenous design thinking for collaborative solutions.

At the end of the year, we take time to celebrate together and reflect on what we have learnt and achieved with Community, clients and collaborators.

In 2025, we collaborated on over fifty projects with our designing with Country approach centering design on the needs of Country and all kin, to support forming deeper connections to the places we live, work and visit.

Guided by First Nations knowledge and grounded in caring for Country we delivered more than 150 workshops, including over 50 sessions with First Nations community partners.

This year we also welcomed four new team members, each bringing valuable skills, experience and care to our work.

We’ll be taking a short break from 22 December and returning on 5 January, refreshed and inspired for 2026. Wishing everyone a restful festive season spent connecting with family and friends.

Yerrabingin is growing, and we’re looking for three new team members to help us shape projects that honour Country and connect communities.

Working on Designing with Country projects, you’ll join our multidisciplinary team of designers, community engagement specialists, landscape architects, researchers and artists putting caring for Country at the heart of design. We are excited to announce that our Principal, Jess Hodge, has been accepted as a member of the NSW Government’s State Design Review Panel (SDRP).

The panel supports GANSW in improving the quality of design outcomes across the state, by providing independent advice on a range of project types.

“I am honoured to have been selected for this panel and to sit alongside the Sydney’s greatest design thinkers. I am excited to not only be a champion for good design through urban design and landscape architecture, but to also share the skills I have gained at Yerrabingin to listen, consider and respond to Country as central to the design process.” – Jess Hodge.

We recently led an educational session with 50 Suburban Land Agency (SLA) staff to build their understanding of how Designing with Country can be meaningfully integrated into projects at multiple scales. Led by Yerrabingin CEO, Christian Hampson, the session explored how Country-centred thinking can generate tangible and intangible outcomes for Community, Country, and Culture in the built environment.

We’re thrilled that our 477 Pitt Street Native Food Garden was Highly Commended in the 2025 Sustainability Awards in the Landscape and Urban category.

The project transforms an underutilised and inaccessible garden terrace in Sydney’s CBD into a vibrant, inclusive and biodiverse urban sanctuary.

The new Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway is close to completion! A 170m long ramp will make cycling across the harbour easy, safe and enjoyable, while connecting people to Gadigal and Cammeraygal Country.

Yerrabingin has been involved in the project since 2021, facilitating designing with Country workshops with local First Nations Elders and Community members.

At our recent Community event, we walked the construction site alongside Community, reflected on progress and laid pavers.

Great to see our award-winning Native Food Garden at 477 Pitt Street featured as a case study in the new Nature Design Guide.

This excellent publication is a practical, industry-led resource created to help shape a Country-centred approach to nature-based design in the Australian built environment. Collaboratively developed, the guide offers actionable nature-based solutions to embed nature within single building and precinct scale projects. You can see our project on pages 125-127, highlighting the Native Food Garden’s benefits as culturally informed and ecologically-sensitive design.

Our website has had a refresh to reflect our growing story. Yerrabingin means “we walk together,” and we’re grateful for the relationships we’ve built with Communities, collaborators and design partners.

Yerrabingin comes from the Indigenous language of Mooktung, spoken by the Bidawal and Maneroo people.

Wow what a night! Thank you to everyone who came together for Shared Paths in Country: Art and Design for a Regenerative Future. Over 70 colleagues and friends joined us in support of the life changing work of , helping us raise a total of $8,870! From this, two students will be fully funded for a year to complete their studies and be empowered as the next generation of hospitality entrepreneurs in Cambodia.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, donated, and shared in the spirit of the evening. Your generosity means so much to both the SPOONS team and to us. We are truly grateful for your support.

Meet the team!

Simon is one of our Landscape Architect Senior Associates, with over 16 years’ experience working across Sydney.

He brings a wealth of knowledge in planning, design, and project delivery—turning ideas, big and small, into built outcomes. Away from work, his passion for restoring old motorcycles fuels a curiosity for how things fit together and how small changes can spark creative, innovative results.

Inspired by listening, observing, and travelling through Country, Simon is constantly reminded of the importance of caring for and respecting everything that Country provides.

Yerrabingin is seeking a part-time Finance Administrator (3 days/week) to support our studio’s financial operations, including bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing, and reporting.

This is more than a finance role. It’s an opportunity to contribute to a team that’s reimagining design through a First Nations lens, where every detail, every process, and every person plays a role in caring for Country.
