Sometimes, a last-minute message really does work out. 🤍

This morning I received a message asking if I could have 3 cakes ready before 3 pm… and by 1:35 pm, they were boxed up and ready to go. 🙈✨

Ideally, I always appreciate at least a day’s notice—it helps me plan my baking schedule and give every order the attention it deserves.

But if my schedule allows, I’m always happy to accommodate a last-minute order too.

So if you’re ever thinking, “She’s probably too busy…” don’t rule yourself out before asking. The worst I can say is no. The best? You might have your order ready sooner than you expected. 💛

And a little reminder that although we’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, our kitchen certainly hasn’t been! We’ve been baking away—we just haven’t had as much time to market everything.

I came across this photo today, taken around the time I first started The Tea-Cake Lady. It reminded me how much can change in such a short time.
This year has been beautifully full—family milestones, little ones growing up, helping my mum pursue her own passion, and learning to embrace different seasons of life. The kitchen hasn’t always been as busy as I’d imagined, but every time I come back to baking, it still feels like coming home.

BTS | Vanilla x Chocolate Kind of Happy 🍫🍰

When she ordered, it was meant to be a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting — but her son wanted vanilla instead. So we did both. ✨

📝Not Perfect, But Familiar

I have always been a chocolate cake person — but also a very particular one. Back in Pakistan, I don’t think any chocolate cake ever came close to Nando’s malt cake — that soft, malty, deeply chocolatey slice was in a league of its own. No matter how many bakeries opened up, nothing matched that taste.

So when I created my Belgian Chocolate Cake, that memory stayed in mind. And every time I make it — especially when I frost it — it takes me right back to that cake. It’s not a malt cake, but there’s something about it that reminds me of home every single time.

And yes, frosting isn’t my forte (as you’ll clearly see in the video 😅) — I only do it when people request it, and things get a little messy in the process. But taste-wise, this one’s always 100%.

Some things just stay with you — a flavour, a song, a memory — and they quietly find their way back to you, even years and miles away. 🩶

🍰 💓 A Slice of Nostalgia, A Dash of Care

Growing up, our home was never quiet — tortoises in boxes, hens in the courtyard, a little fish pond, and birds that sang even when no one was listening. Every Bakra Eid, you’d find me outside with my cousins, fussing over the qurbani animals like they were family. Chaos, yes — but full of the kind of warmth that teaches compassion without saying a word.

I’ve always loved animals… though I was terrified of stray dogs in Pakistan. It wasn’t until I became a mum that I really tried to unlearn that fear. I didn’t want to pass it onto my kids, so I did my own little exposure therapy. Then there was Phoebe, a rescue cat my brother brought home. Mum’s allergies meant we couldn’t keep her, and seeing what happened to Phoebe afterward was gut-wrenching. That’s when I started understanding neglect — and how much hope we can give when we care.

Life moved on. I moved countries, became a mum, and that part of me quietly took a backseat. After a few miscarriages, I even thought of getting a cat. But then Omar arrived — and it turns out he’s an even bigger animal lover than I ever was. 🐾

A chance meeting with .r w(and her sweet cat, Marmalade) reignited that love. So when she reached out to collaborate on a fundraiser for animal rescue, it felt like everything had come full circle — from the girl who once sat outside caring for animals, to the woman now doing it in a different way, in a different corner of the world.

We’ll be launching the fundraiser this Monday — and I can’t wait to share it with you. Maybe you’ll find a little piece of your younger self in it too. 🤍
