Beautiful day for a beautiful wedding 🤍

4 tier classic white in smooth buttercream finish. Although simple, I find this is the hardest cake to pull off. Finish must be perfect. Any imperfections will stand out and no decorations to hide them.

Close up of the pin wheel flower. Hand cut, conditioned, layered. Edges trimmed and curled to look like petals. Wafer paper lace added in between some of the layers. Fondant rose added to the centre.

After few practices and trials, adding and tweaking from the original design, this was the end result. Not how I imagined at the beginning, but I’m happy with the outcome.

When creating a cake design, I tend to have a basic plan/ideas but never really know what to put for finer details.. it always end up changing anyway. I usually just zone out in the moment, go with the flow and see how I feel, and just… create.

“You Spin Me Round”

Black and white theme for a black tie wedding. Using wafer paper pinwheels instead of flowers for a fun effect (three minis on the back actually spins). Various laces added for elegance, wafer paper sails and leaves to represent wind/movement.

I knew I wanted to make wafer paper pinwheels on this wedding cake but when I tried looking for inspiration online, nothing came up. So maybe this could be a new trend one day. Looking forward to seeing more fun pinwheels on cakes 😊

I still cannot believe it but this piece came first place in the open ultimate wedding cake category at the ACADA International Cake Show Australia! With so many amazing entries this year I honestly thought I didn’t stand a chance. Being the only black wedding cake it definitely stood out.
