Melbourne Coffee Academy We are a coffee training academy committed to providing the highest standard of barista courses and training programs for the coffee industry.

Over the next couple of months, we’ll be featuring some of the wonderful barista trainers at MCA.

Starting up we have e 🍄✨🌱 — she joined us back in April and manages our coffee bar and runs classes at our Ringwood location.

She has a wealth of experience working in high-volume cafes and brings a warmth and energy to all the classes she runs.

Our Barista Apprenticeship Course is designed to prepare you for work behind the bar in a specialty cafe. It’s an intense four-day course centred around coffee service sessions where we offer free coffee to our neighbours in the co-working space, creating a real high-volume specialty cafe environment.

We run this course in our C*D and Scoresby locations.

And we’re back…

After a two-year break, MCA Sessions is returning at our new city location! New to the party? It’s a get-together for Melbourne’s specialty coffee community, with a playful coffee tasting that puts your palate and coffee knowledge to the test.

When: Thursday 8 October, from 5:00 pm
Bowls poured: 5:30 pm

Everyone’s welcome, though the session is best suited to people with some experience cupping or tasting coffee.

Huge thanks to Ryan Caisley and the team at Oatly for bringing the vibes and providing food and drinks for the night. It’s going to be epic!

Our Basic Espresso Course is the most popular barista course at MCA, and for good reason. It focuses on all the fundamental skills needed to make great coffee at home or even start your journey as a barista in Melbourne.

Flashback to our last team catch up ✨ We usually get together once a month to discuss courses, R&D coffee and training techniques, and to share our experiences with each other. This helps us continuously refine what we do and allows us to ensure our training stays up-to-date and relevant for both professional and home baristas.

We start with a cupping, get down to business, and often finish off with a cheeky w**e!

Refresher Courses are back!

We’re running another round of these courses for past students who are now working as baristas. This is for anyone who has previously completed a Barista Apprenticeship or Masterclass and is now working in a cafe. It’s also suitable for any new baristas in Melbourne looking to upskill.

There will be a mix of facilitated discussion and learning with like-minded coffee professionals, along with hands-on training and coaching on the various disciplines of being a barista.

Everything from advanced milk steaming, latte art, workflow and efficiencies, filter coffee brewing and fundamental palate training.

We’re loving our TIMEMORE Coffee OFFICIAL Sculptor 078s at our city location. Ideal for filter brewing at home or even in the cafe, what surprised us is how easily it transitions from filter to espresso grinding. Back in the day (we’re talking pre 2010… gosh we’re old), you could never find a grinder that looks this good, with the flexibility and functionality that modern grinders now have.

The options for single-dose grinders have never been better, and it’s never been easier to make epic coffee at home 🙌 Skill up!
