Mackay Farmers' Market

From today's The Sydney Morning Herald...🍅🫛🫚🫜🍊

"Eating seasonally has always been about flavour, but with fuel costs on the rise, it’s also one of the simplest ways to keep your grocery bills in check. 'If you want to save money, be flexible and stick to what’s in season,' says Eden Fanelli, a fourth-generation farmer from Fanelli Organics, who also runs a stall at Carriageworks Farmers Market in Sydney.

'The impact of higher diesel prices is falling hardest on supermarkets, which rely on bulk produce, often shipped long distances from inland or interstate growers.

'By contrast, locally grown fruit and vegetables sold at farmers’ markets travel shorter distances and can offer better value.' "

Thanks Eden for highlighting the fact that short supply chains, ie paddock > plate via local farmers' markets offer reliable, practical and healthy solutions in our increasingly unsure world.

I was very excited to pick flowers today for the Mackay Farmers' Market tomorrow. We have had so many rainy overcast days which the tropical flower plants enjoy but we need the sunshine to help them bloom. The few sunny days have made a huge difference.
See you at Blue Water Quay 6.30 to 10am.

The passion behind Ventons Tropical Blooms comes from a genuine love for what they do, growing good quality, nutritious fruit for the community.

They truly value the connections they’ve built with customers over the years and always enjoy meeting new faces at the market.

Their goal is simple: grow the best quality fruit and flowers possible.

We often hear from market shopers that their kids refuse supermarket bananas after trying Ventons Tropical Blooms bananas. Even the little ones can taste the difference! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A huge thank you to our incredible community at the Mackay Farmers Market.

This morning, many of you came down not knowing what the weather would bring or which stalls might make it through. With flood waters affecting some of our stallholders, we truly appreciated your patience, understanding and continued support.

You took a chance, showed up, and supported the businesses who could safely attend.

We really do have the most amazing customers. Thank you for backing local, rain or shine.

Every week you’ll find us at Bluewater Quay, bringing the community together with fresh, seasonal, locally grown produce.

If the weather turns, we simply move undercover so you can continue shopping in comfort.

While stall numbers can change slightly due to seasonal harvests and conditions, our growers are back as soon as they can be.

Through heat, humidity or rain, our dedicated local farmers show up to keep Mackay stocked with the best of the season.

So grab your bags and come on down — we’ll be there, whatever the weather!
