Hello from Perth!

*please read*

Just wanted to post a quick little update as I've been getting quite a few enquiries coming through lately and without deleting my accounts, I'm unable to turn my messages off (I don't think!)

We've officially been here a month and we are loving beach life so far! The girls have settled well and I'm down to the last few boxes to unpack 🥳

I don't see myself going back to baking any time soon and not sure if I'll ever unpack my cake decorating boxes other than for the girl's cakes 🫣
I still have a huge backlog of cake photos I haven't posted so you may see one pop up here and there as well. Just like this beauty from back in November.

I hope everyone has had a great start to 2024.

Currently in the depths of packing boxes and culling like a crazy person. In between working and getting ready for Christmas and solo parenting I might add.

Ever tried fitting your entire life in a 20ft shipping container?! I'm pretty good at a game of tetris but this one has me nervous!

For now though, I will be doing my best to play catch up on the backlog of beautiful cake photos taking up all the memory in my camera roll. Also thankful for myself making this draft post last week because my brain is a little like mush at the moment 🫣

This stunner was from a few weeks ago at with the most amazing bright collection of florals thanks to 💐

Finishing the most magical year of cakes with this absolute stunner at BoxGrove yesterday.

It was a pretty bittersweet moment delivering my last cake and I'm sure it hasn't quite hit me yet that I won't be playing with cake and buttercream for the foreseeable future.

This cake has had me excited for so long! Dim gave me an inspiration pic and it was up to me to work out how to create that textured look.
I had a few options of how to bring it together but finally settled on an idea inspired by Copper Fork Cakes using fondant and a textured rolling pin.
Also note, I could not find said textured rolling pin online anywhere 🫠 Dad to the rescue of course. He made me one after I gave him a terrible description of what I needed it to be like 🤣

Special mention to my frustration at the high humidity levels that this week's rain brought. My cakes were all but dripping with condensation 😫

The cake fropper from Eucalypt Industries just added so much to the stunning finished result. And those blooms supplied by Blooms By Kayla 👌🏼😍

Have you heard the news??? I am officially in my last week of cakes before we relocate at the end of the year 🥲

The final opportunity to get your hands on some of my delicious goodies is by coming along and enjoying a few hours of learning.
You'll walk away with new techniques, a dozen delicious cupcakes, beautifully decorated cookies and all the tools to recreate them yourself at home in the lead up to Christmas 🎄

We've had an overwhelming response so far and remaining spaces are EXTREMELY limited! We suggest if you were thinking about coming along, don't delay purchasing your ticket or they may be sold out.

Kathryn's Cakes X Shinglewood Cottage presents to you "Christmas in the Cottage" Dessert Decorating Workshop.

Sunday 3rd December
10am - 1pm

Spend some time decorating magical Christmas desserts.

Enjoy a glass of bubbles and grazing platter as you learn how to:

Make the perfect buttercream.
Use various piping tips and pipe buttercream to decorate cupcakes.
Create Christmas Tree and Gingerbread Men cookies.

You will take home with you 12 delicious chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and a variety of cookies. You will also be taking home with you the piping tips you have used to learn your new skills as well as some piping bags to recreate your own treats for Christmas Day!

The vibes I got when I was asked to create this cake were that it was going to be one epic wedding. I absolutely was not wrong! The brides had every detail sorted. Including a little video I saw of the fact one of the bride's grandmother let her tattoo her on the night of the wedding 👌🏼🤣

The .hayshed.wedding.and.events always makes the perfect backdrop for stunning weddings and this time was no different.
Splashes of pink were everywhere. My favourite!

The white on white of the cake made it elegant but with that edgy touch! What you can't see is the fact it took me about 5 attempts to get the writing correct 🤣 it's harder than it looks!

The bride and groom have the most beautiful friend. I was contacted to make this stunning wedding cake as a gift to the newly-weds. Absolutely the kind of friend anyone would be lucky to have 🤍

Layers of white chocolate mud and coconut and lime mud cake for all those cake detail lovers.

The torrential rain that Saturday didn't stop the wedding from going ahead. I just hope nobody got drenched in the downpours 🙈 set up at the beautiful The Greenhouse of Orange and I can spy a sneaky set up by Luxe Events by Jess in the corner.

The inspiration for this one came from an all fondant cake with sugar flowers, so we adjusted the design to buttercream and fresh florals. Bringing a 3 tier cake together is a bit of a process, but I hope you enjoy this little snippet of it coming to life ✨️

When I had the phone call about making this cake, my eyes lit up!

Pastel, rainbows and all things girly 🌈

If you saw my stories yesterday (they may even still be there!) You would have seen the full set up from little Abigail's first birthday at the The Re*****on Orange re*****on Complimented perfectly by the most amazing back drop by Abby K Events Flowers Styling

Some fabulous small businesses contributed to the finished cake.
✨️ Janelle's Fondant Toppers made the cute little elephant that matched perfectly from the birthday invitation
✨️ Deezee Designs for the wafer butterflies
✨️ Impressions made the name and butterfly cutouts. And so conveniently lives right scross the street from me for my last minute requests 😅
✨️ brought my pastel rainbow dreams to life! (And also saved me having to contend with driving with a fondant rainbow across town at the risk of it breaking!)
✨️ Pick Me Flowers and Gifts Orange for the beautiful little floral details

At one point I was a little stressed there was too much going on, but once it had all come together, I knew it was perfect! I may even go as far to say it may be one of my fave cakes of all time 🩷

It was all about the rainbows this weekend 🌈

Taking inspiration from the most stunning cake from Mumbles Cakes and Bakes I shared months ago. I put the call out to see if someone was keen for me to create something similar. Maggie from Lumiere Beauty jumped at the idea instantly to be a part of Levi's 5th birthday celebrations yesterday.

I am so in love with how it all came together! Not to mention Eloise at Eucalypt Industries nailing the brief with the topper and fropper as usual 👌🏼

When you're a twin but want different themes 🦄🧜🏼‍♀️

I have always said girly cakes are my favourite to create, and with these pretty cakes, you can tell why 😍

Absolute winners in the birthday girls' eyes, and apparently there was none left at the end of the day! Kids can be such tough critics so I was pleased to hear they loved them!

I'm off to deliver the most fun and colourful cake this morning for a 1st birthday followed by a visit to my Nan with my girls and a fresh batch of scones 🤤 Have a beautiful Sunday ✨️
