Precious Bread-Friends,
We are sad to announce that we have baked our last weekly bake (although we had to split it into 2 weeks as we had so many orders!) for our subscribers. We have decided to mothball the bakery as a business for a while.
It is a decision that has been weighing on us for a while, and a hard one to make when there is so much love and goodwill involved. Unfortunately neither of us have had time over the last few years to grow the business in any way while trying to balance our other jobs. This year the pressure is greater with changes in our roles at work and our girls will have a lot of travel with volleyball, one in senior years with early morning starts and learning to drive - you know how the chaos all comes at once at that age!
We're not sure about the future of the bakery space and equipment at the moment, we're having a think about that. It would be awesome if the local market came back or if the bakery could provide employment for others but it's not feasible at the moment as it's a 5 day/week commitment just for the small amount that we've been baking which is not practical unless you live here (sourdough is like having an extra child!).
If we start up again in the future it will be when we have a bit more time and focus to run and grow the business properly - like having in-person gatherings for customers, a better ordering system, actual marketing, bike tour croissant & coffee days and all the things we would love to do!
In the meantime we just want to say the BIGGEST THANK YOU to you beautiful people who have been steadfast orderers and lovely friends, and maybe have enjoyed our sourdough chaos over the years. We love you!
We would also like to announce the most popular loaf over our online ordering history was not plain, but in fact medium rye! Go rye lovers.
OK well that's all for now. Thanks for all your lovely messages over the years too π
Peace out
Firefly Bakery xx
