In honour of Dolly Parton, we have made Dolly’s butterscotch pie with pecan base recipe. It’s delicious and available now in our cake cabinet. We all have memories of listening to the legendary Dolly. Both sides of our family are musical 🎤 and we grew up listening to the best. Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Slim Dusty and of course Dolly. RIP Dolly and thank you for the memories.

4 National Medals at the 2026 Australia’s Best Pies and Pasties Competition!
We are so proud to announce that the Mitchell Bakery won 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at the 2026 Australia’s Best Pies and Pasties competition.
Three days of competition on the Gold Coast competing against over 2,300 pies entered by 370 bakeries from across Australia.

🥉Bronze medal for lamb and rosemary

People know that being in small business can be hard. But honestly it’s not the long hours of work that makes owning and operating small business difficult. The fact is - it is bureaucracy, red tape, continually changing rules and regulations that makes small business hard. And the harsh reality is that government doesn’t care about small business. The month of May is dedicated as Small Business Month. What does this mean in a practical sense for small business? Zero, nothing - just lip service. My day yesterday was spent baking in the morning and then driving 184 kilometres round trip to Roma to dispose of commercial waste (coldroom panels from an old prover we removed during upgrade work). In a time where we are told to be conservative in our use of fuel, I drove 184 kilometres to dispose of waste that in the past could have been disposed of at our local refuse site. The alternative offered was to hold the waste on site (advice I am sure the health inspector would take exception too) and dispose of after 1 July when a weigh bridge had been installed at our local refuse site so I could be charged the appropriate fee. So to ensure the state government and local council didn’t miss out on the $32 fee I was charged to dispose of the waste at the Roma tip, I drove 184 kilometres at a time where we are still paying $2.50 per litre for fuel and lost about 3 hours of productive time. But sadly no one in government cares about what is happening to small businesses in our small rural towns.

St Patrick’s School is an active,community focused school in Mitchell. Thank you for their acknowledgement of all the hard work the show committee does to host the annual Mitchell Show. And a big thank you to Archee for mentioning the bakery as his favourite thing in our community. 😊
