I went a little out of my comfort zone and made 4 entries into the baking competition at the Royal Melbourne show this year - my first ever competitions. I had no idea what the judges would be looking for or what the criteria was, so I just baked my little heart out!
I went in with low expectations, given that they were my first competitive bakes. I didn't expect to come away with anything (of course I hoped, though!). This morning, I woke up to the news that, although my lemon curd did not place, I received a high commendation for my decorated cake and won first place for my brownies and wagon wheels! I couldn't believe it! I also received a rosette for the overall winner of the biscuits, pastries, and slices category!
I'm so super proud of myself, and it makes me realise that if you bake with love and passion, you can absolutely achieve a wonderfully high standard baking in your own kitchen. My humble little homemade brownies and wagon wheels are now award winning!
Did anyone get any over the weekend? Because you ate exactly what the judges ate! What did you think?!
