We are sad to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton (1946-2026).

Dolly was a music legend and philanthropist, leaving a legacy to children's literature with her Imagination Library. Dedicated to inspiring a love of reading, the program has gifted 332 million books to children around the world; 2 million within Australia.

"Everywhere I go, the kids call me 'the book lady.' The older I get, the more appreciative I seem to be of the 'book lady' title. It makes me feel more like a legitimate person, not just a singer or an entertainer. But it makes me feel like I've done something good with my life and with my success."

Thank you Dolly 💙

The KIDs' Reading Guide is calling this one a modern classic! 🐐

Read on for details...
Imagine a goat called Kid raised in a chicken coop by a hen named Audrey! Peter Carnavas brings this ‘modern classic’ to life with his signature ink and grey wash illustrations and a tale that balances whimsical humour with moments with real heart. It’s a beautiful journey about a small hero’s quest to find his lost family beyond the forbidden farm fence.

It's officially Children's Book Week! 🥳

Running from Saturday 22nd to Friday 28th August, this year's theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’ 🎻

Briony Stewart () has said about the stunning artwork:
‘I decided to try and show what stepping into a symphony of stories might be like. A huge colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments.’

We love seeing kids (and adults!) getting inspired to read stories new and old, and dress up as their favourite characters for Children's Book Week and beyond 💫

Spring is on the horizon! 🌄

Winter is wrapping up and we're moving into the warmer months (I say this with an abundance of optimism and hope!).

Now you've seen winter, now you can see spring, with these delightful board books!

The KRG describes the set as:
A quartet of board books from bestselling duo Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen. Each book uses the same simple text, but the illustrations shift to show spring, summer, autumn and winter through a child’s eyes. Set on a farm, there’s a gentle focus on everyday moments and seasonal changes. Lovely to read aloud, and nice to have as a set or on their own.

Pick up one or all at your local bookshop ❄️🌺🌞🍂📖

04/08/2026

Mark your calendars! Love Your Bookshop Day 2026 is Saturday 10 October.

We’re excited to officially launch this year’s campaign and reveal our 2026 theme: Ask a bookseller. Shake up your shelf.

This year, we’re celebrating the important role booksellers play in helping readers discover new books, new authors and unexpected favourites. Whether you’re looking to shake up your usual reading, get back into books or simply don’t know what to read next, ask a bookseller.

This year’s artwork is by illustrator Bill Hope, whose wonderful illustrations capture the joy of finding your next great read and, in his words, “show booksellers as a tour guide to your next literary adventure”.

On 10 October, bookshops across Australia will be celebrating Love Your Bookshop Day in all sorts of wonderful ways. It’s an invitation to visit your local bookshop, connect with a bookseller and ask them to recommend something you might not have picked up yourself.

For now, save the date, follow along and get ready to shake up your shelf.
