It's the night before Love Your Bookshop Day and we're not sure how we'll sleep! 🤭

The excitement is brewing and it's time to share a final exciting treat.

Not only is Bill Hope our incredible artist for the LYBD artwork campaign, but he is also the illustrator of the ‘You & Me’ series, written by Andy Griffiths.

For he has created a special one-of-a-kind print with your favourite characters from the You & Me series. This prize will be given to ONE lucky winner who enters the Kids' Colouring Competition, with thanks to Pan Macmillan Australia.

Head to your local bookshop to pick up a copy of the LYBD2026 Kids’ Colouring Competition, get creative with it, and you could win.

Don't forget to enter the Kids’ Colouring Competition! 🎨

We’re inviting young readers to get creative by colouring in Bill Hope’s bookish scenes, then using the blank space to draw their very own perfect bookshop. It could have towering shelves, cosy reading corners, books floating through the air, a resident bookshop dragon or something completely unexpected. The sky (and above!) is the limit!

Winners will receive a $100 LYB Gift Card to use in their local bookshops!

Head to the LYB website to download and print the LYBD2026 Colouring Competition sheet and pass it along to the young creative in your life.

You can enter by sharing a completed artwork on socials using or by emailing it to [email protected].

Entries for all three age categories (0-5, 6-8 and 9-12) close on 17 October 2026. We can't wait to see your creations!

Booktober is a reading challenge from WestWords that invites people of all ages to become Bookworms, choose what they want to read and help raise funds so more young people can access writers, creative writing opportunities and the chance to tell their own stories.

There are no reading rules. Picture books count. Chapter books count. Graphic novels count. Audiobooks count. Bedtime rereads absolutely count.

Families can sign up together, create a team or set a simple reading goal for the month.

We are devastated to hear the news of Terry Denton's passing (1950-2026).

Terry was an icon in the world of children's books, most notably known for the complexly illustrated world of the 'Treehouse' series, written by Andy Griffiths.

We have pulled from our archives the 2014-2015 edition of the Kids' Reading Guide in honour of Terry. The cover and internal illustrations were taken from 'The 52-Storey Treehouse' and highlight the imagination and creativity Terry had.

A heartfelt thank you to Terry for inspiring many generations of children and adults alike to see the world through a lens of joy.

We are sad to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton (1946-2026).

Dolly was a music legend and philanthropist, leaving a legacy to children's literature with her Imagination Library. Dedicated to inspiring a love of reading, the program has gifted 332 million books to children around the world; 2 million within Australia.

"Everywhere I go, the kids call me 'the book lady.' The older I get, the more appreciative I seem to be of the 'book lady' title. It makes me feel more like a legitimate person, not just a singer or an entertainer. But it makes me feel like I've done something good with my life and with my success."
