If you’re dreading feeds, this is for you.
I worked with a mum recently who was dealing with pain, inconsistent latch, and that constant question: is my baby actually feeding properly?

We didn’t overhaul everything.
We worked with her baby’s natural latch and made a few small, targeted adjustments to support a deeper, more effective attachment.

From there, things shifted quickly.
She’s now getting a consistent latch most feeds, her baby is gaining weight, and most importantly she’s no longer dreading feeds.

Breastfeeding shouldn’t feel like something you have to push through.
If this is where you’re at, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Please do not leave the fate of your breastfeeding journey to hospital education.
One of the biggest pieces of feedback in maternity care is conflicting advice.

I see this first-hand during my years working as an IBCLC in hospitals.
New parents need time, consistency, and clear guidance… but the reality is, support can be brief.
You’ll see multiple staff in a short space of time, and they will often all say something different. Sometimes it’s completely contradictory.

This leaves new mums feeling confused, overwhelmed, and unsure what to trust.
This isn’t about individual clinicians; it’s a system issue.

My advice?
Have your own breastfeeding support organised before your baby arrives.
So you have:
1. clear, consistent advice
2. a plan that actually fits you
3. someone you trust to turn to if things feel uncertain

I offer Breastfeeding Planning sessions in clinic (Moonee Ponds, Melbourne) and online.
I currently have 4 clinic spots and 2 online spots available each week.

If breastfeeding is making you brace yourself every time your baby latches…
this isn’t something you just have to push through.

I see so many mums told:
“it looks okay/good”
“it will get better”
“just give it time”

…while they’re in real pain.

Breastfeeding can feel comfortable. Enjoyable, even.
And when it doesn’t there’s always a reason.

I’ve put together a free guide to help you understand why ni**le pain happens (and what to do about it).

You don’t need to figure this out alone.

Have you been told your latch “looks good”…
but it still hurts?
(FYI if it hurts, it’s not a good latch!!)

If you’ve been dealing with ni**le pain for days now,
this is your sign to get support.

Unfortunately, ni**le pain is common, but it is not normal.

Most importantly… it’s not something you need to push through or just deal with.

I regularly see mums in 10/10 pain.
With a few small, expert tweaks, we can often reduce that pain quickly,
giving them relief, confidence, and most importantly hope that breastfeeding can:
Feel comfortable.
Feel calm.
Be enjoyable.

You don’t have to figure this out on your own.

For Melbourne mums I have clinic spots and a few home visit appointments available this week.
If you’re not local, we can work together online.

Something that surprises a lot of my clients is that breastfeeding support isn’t always fully out of pocket.
As I am an IbCLC + Endorsed Midwife, many clients are eligible for Medicare rebates during pregnancy and in the early postpartum period.
Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold, Medicare may also contribute additional rebates towards your care.

Some private health funds may also provide rebates for:
• Lactation consultations postpartum
• Breastfeeding education/planning during pregnancy
• Breast pumps
The overall cost of support may be less than you expect.
If cost has been holding you back, this is worth exploring.

I support families with:
• Breastfeeding planning during pregnancy
• Pain, latch and feeding challenges
• Pumping, bottle refusal & returning to work
• Weaning and long-term feeding goals

If you’re unsure what you’re eligible for, I’m always happy to guide you.

Breastfeeding can be one of the most magical parts of early motherhood… but it can also feel confusing, overwhelming and sometimes painful.
So many new mums assume they just need to “figure it out” on their own. But the right support can make a huge difference.

I’m Joelleen, an IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Midwife and Naturopath, and I support families through all stages of feeding.
You might reach out to me if you are:
• pregnant and wanting to prepare for breastfeeding
• experiencing ni**le pain or latch challenges
• worried about milk supply
• introducing a bottle or pump
• planning your return to work while breastfeeding
• thinking about weaning

I offer home visits across Melbourne, clinic consultations (in Moonee Ponds) and online esupport, so you can get help in a way that works for you.

If you’d like personalised support, you can book via the link in my bio.

And if you’re pregnant, I’d love to know:

Ended up exclusively pumping with your first baby?
Many mums come to me during their second pregnancy wanting a different breastfeeding experience this time.
You’ve learned so much from that experience, but you are still feeling anxious, a little preparation during pregnancy can make a BIG difference.

Turn the apprehension into empowerment with these practical and helpful steps:
• talking through your previous experience in a structured and productive way (not just rehashing the trauma)
• setting gentle boundaries around pumping this time
• reviewing your pump and equipment (practical upgrades to optimise your experience if needed)
• understanding what actually happened clinically and what we can do differently
• creating a realistic feeding plan with your capacity in mind

And most importantly, remembering:
This baby will not be the same baby. It can be different this time.
Your body has done this before, and you now have so much more wisdom and perspective.

If you’d like support preparing for breastfeeding again, I offer 1:1 Breastfeeding Planning Sessions where we can process your previous experience and make a plan for this baby.

I’m seeing more and more mums who are working right up until they are due. I often hear “mat leave started on Friday - I had my baby on the Monday!”.
Cost of living and career goals/pressure are so real.

Between work, preparing for birth + baby and life admin, breastfeeding and postpartum prep can get missed entirely.

You can research on your own, but if your brain is feeling full and you are short on time, spending one session preparing before baby arrives can make the early weeks feel much calmer.

In my breastfeeding planning sessions we cover:
• what to expect in the first days
• how to recognise a deep latch + care for sore ni**les
• what you need to know about your milk supply
• practical postpartum strategies for the early weeks

📍 Melbourne clinic in Moonee Ponds and Online sessions available. If a weekday doesn’t work for you, message me about a weekend slot. I can also write carer/sick leave notes for your employer.
