The Pilgrims way is an incredible journey of history, stone paths worn with crevices from the wheels of time over ancient bridges across the most beautiful clear running rivers. Beautiful art murals adorn the walls to discover, while we keep our eyes open for the arrows directing our way and the wonder of walking through the forest to be serenaded by the Spanish bagpipe, one step at a time to Santiago, with so much to share along our path. 🙌🙌🙏

We say goodbye to the beautiful city of Porto and begin our “buen camino”today, we’ve made it to our first albergue the cobblestone roads are telling on our feet and we haven’t forgotten that we can’t overstretch our walk on our first day before we make it to our destination Santiago. We’re out of the urban area now and the small fields of cereal are beautiful to see, especially coming from a the broad acre experience of Australia. 🙌

The last three days in Lisbon have been incredible to say the least. The city is very definitely alive with so much diversity of architecture and tiles to say the least. So much to see in a short time frame but so much to remember and a special big thanks to our local friends Ivo and Catia ( we hosted Iva&Catia as Work Aways when we built our house in Maldon) your hospitality and guidance on what to see and experience in Lisbon was invaluable. .debelem the artisan bread world is very much alive in Lisbon and the Portuguese tarts are to die for! Next stop Porto to begin the Camino, our pilgrimage walk begins. 🙌🙏

I’m finding it hard to post these days when caring for country is going out the window, with so much aggression in the world we live in, both environmentally , politically and socially but here we are just returned from the start of 2026 spending time on the Yorke Peninsula walking taking in some of the beautiful scenery that Australia has to offer in preparation for our next journey to Portugal to walk the Camino.

I definitely am not a fan of .australian and it’s usual content of vitriolic anti woke left bashing journalism and it’s normal contempt for the people who support the plight of the Palestinian people and anyone who speaks out against the current Israeli government and its genocide against the people of Gaza! The Australian is definitely a mouthpiece for right wing opinion writers who seem to revel in insults and fueling angry discourse, I’m assuming to keep some semblance of balance they manage to publish the occasional piece that l cannot get angry in reading and today is that exception! To read Noel Pearson’s article was a breath of fresh air, to have a perspective from an indigenous champion published on the weekend when we celebrate “Australia Day” on the date of the arrival of the British to colonise a country that they had no rights to, when we are told to celebrate, to mourn the deaths of the Bondi massacre and never asked to publicly mourn the massacre of our indigenous ancestors and still our Indigenous people still prove that they have more empathy for humanity and empathy for others than we could ever muster!

Last baking class for 2025 today and the result was a very enjoyable entertaining presentation of skills by all. It was definitely a social experiment deciding on everyone’s pizza toppings but the eating experience was yet another success, while the pita bread and baguettes were accompanied with the beautiful condiment of Palestinian olive oil. 🙌🙏

The year is drawing to a close with one more workshop to go December 13th being the last one. Today was once again thoroughly enjoyed by all with hopefully more questions answered with the rabbit hole of home sourdough baking made simpler without the millstone of continuous leaven feeding on a daily basis, salt delay, town water and all the other myriad of stumbling blocks that confuse so many home bakers and pressure them into disparities that shouldn’t be there. 🙌🍻

It’s bubbling and brewing 12hrs since my last feed ( three feeds at 12 hr intervals)ready for today’s workshop and just to make a point this leaven ( starter) was sitting dormant in my home fridge as a piece of dough taken from my last class at CERES a month ago, no daily feeding and discarding, just a piece of dough hanging out in the fridge, waiting patiently to be reactivated. 👍

in Naarm ( Melbourne) today, the weather was downright miserable but it was wonderful to see Palestine pride itself on the beauty, diversity and love that is Palestine. 🇵🇸 The art, food and cultural welcome that was brought to was inspiring even with the constant rain and cloudy skies. The Palestinian flag was raised beside the flags of Australia, to fly with pride, the welcome to country and the shared experience of settler colonialism struggles was the introduction that brought the sense of belonging home. The lived experience accounts of the incredible loss in Gaza the utter destruction of Palestine lives and yet the Palestinians still share their pride of identity with everyone who was present there today. 🙌🙌 🇵🇸
