GMY Rangers headed out on the water with Lloyd from TropWATER, making the most of the good weather and perfect timing to set up cameras along the coastline ahead of the 2026 turtle nesting season 🐒🌊

The cameras will help monitor nesting turtles and identify potential predation threats, supporting the protection of turtles and Sea Country.

A significant and historic moment for Traditional Owners of the Great Barrier Reef. πŸ’™πŸͺΈ

GMYPPBC is proud to stand alongside Traditional Owners from across the Reef as part of the ReefTO Alliance β€” an independent, Traditional Owner owned and controlled Alliance built on generations of knowledge, connection to Country and a shared responsibility to care for Sea Country.

After more than 30 years of conversations, advocacy and determination, this is a powerful step forward for Traditional Owner leadership and collective action.

We honour the Old People and Ancestors who carried this vision before us, those who helped bring it to this moment, and the generations who will carry it forward.

Many Nations. One Reef. πŸ’™πŸͺΈ

We are proud to be part of this historic journey.

🌿 Friday Flashback ... Growing Ranger Leaders

Back in July, GMY Rangers travelled to the Bunya Mountains to take part in the QILSRP Leadership Program, continuing a leadership journey that has supported the growth and development of our Rangers over several years.

Brody Gray joined the first intake in 2022 while on placement with Marine Parks, followed by Fred Lefoe in the second intake in 2023, before joining the GBR Biology team. Stirling Ludwick and Dion Sands joined the third leadership program intake in 2025.

This year, Brody and Fred were invited back to mentor the current intake of Rangers, sharing their experiences, knowledge and leadership skills with those progressing through the program. It is great to see their journey come full circle, from participating in the program themselves to supporting and encouraging the next group of emerging Ranger leaders.

Through two leadership workshops each year, the Rangers have continued to build valuable skills, confidence and knowledge to support them in their roles and strengthen their leadership capabilities.

The Rangers are pictured with our QILSRP Senior Project Officer, Aleta Azambuja Lima, and Neil from the Juunjuwarra Ranger Team.

We are proud to see our Rangers continuing to grow as leaders, share their knowledge and experiences, support one another and build connections with other Ranger teams. πŸŒ±πŸ’š

A special thank you to QILSRP for facilitating this program and for the ongoing investment in the development of our Rangers. Opportunities like these play an important role in building leadership, confidence and capability, while supporting Rangers to grow within their roles and share their skills and knowledge with others.

πŸ† It’s official... GMYPPBC has achieved a THREE-PEAT! πŸ†

As we look back on the 65th Queensland Training Awards earlier this month, we’ve been reflecting on what an incredible three years it has been for GMYPPBC and GMY Rangers. πŸ‘πŸΎπŸŽ‰

With the Brisbane Lions celebrating a three-peat, we thought we might join in on the 3 Peat Celebration too! πŸ¦πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†

Different field, different competition... but we’re proudly claiming our own Queensland Training Awards three-peat! πŸ˜„

We are incredibly proud to have been recognised at the Queensland Training Awards for three consecutive years:

πŸ† 2024 – GMYPPBC
Small Employer of the Year

πŸ† 2025 – Dion Sands
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year

πŸ† 2026 – Stirling Ludwick
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year

We couldn’t be prouder of Stirling and his incredible achievement at the Queensland Training Awards earlier this month. From beginning his journey as a trainee Ranger to becoming a qualified Ranger who is now qualified to teach and train other Rangers, Stirling’s journey is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and the right opportunities and support. We are incredibly proud to see him continuing to grow as an emerging leader within GMY Rangers. πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ’š

While we may be taking the opportunity to join in on the three-peat celebrations, these three years of recognition mean a great deal to us. They reflect the commitment of our Rangers and staff, and the collective support of the many people and organisations who continue to invest in training, development and pathways for Gunggandji and Mandingalbay Yidinji people.

A heartfelt thank you to the Queensland Government, Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET), Queensland Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program, TAFE Queensland, RAM Training Services, MAS National, Skills for Queensland and Wugu Nyambil, along with our sponsors, training partners, mentors and industry partners. πŸ™πŸΎ

Your ongoing support helps us provide our Rangers with opportunities to gain qualifications, develop new skills, step into leadership roles and build strong pathways for the future.

Thank you also to our Board, past and present, staff, Rangers, families and community for the role you all play in supporting the work we do. β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›

Three consecutive years of recognition at the Queensland Training Awards is something we are incredibly proud of, and we are grateful to everyone who has played a part in making these achievements possible.

And to the Brisbane Lions... we see your three-peat and congratulations on winning the premiership on Saturday - what an epic finish + 4 minutes of footy πŸ‰ πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸŽ‰πŸ‘€πŸ¦πŸ†

GMYPPBC has one too! πŸ˜„πŸ‘πŸΎ

πŸ† 2024. 2025. 2026. πŸ†

Three years. Three awards. One very proud organisation and community.

Celebrating Local Yarrabah success β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’›

We were so proud to see Stirling Ludwick and Tahlia Mundraby Holmes featured on Channel 7 News following their success at the 2026 Queensland Training Awards. πŸ†πŸ‘πŸΎ

These are the moments that make our community proud β€” seeing our young people show up, work hard and make the most of every opportunity.

For GMY Rangers, Stirling’s journey is a perfect example of our team motto:

SHOW UP. TO GO UP.πŸ’ͺ🏽

Stirling has lived this motto every step of the way β€” from beginning his training journey as a GMY Ranger, continuing to learn and develop his skills, to becoming a qualified trainer and being recognised as the 2026 Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.

He truly embodies Show Up to Go Up. πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

We’re also incredibly proud of Tahlia Mundraby Holmes, a school-based trainee at Trinity Bay State High School and a proud Gunggandji and Mandingalbay Yidinji descendant, celebrating her own success at the Queensland Training Awards.

Two different journeys, but the same message β€” education, training, opportunity and support can open doors.

Congratulations Stirling and Tahlia! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ†

Your achievements are not just personal successes β€” they are moments of pride for your families, your community and everyone who has supported you along the way. β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€

What a night! πŸ†πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎ

We couldn’t be prouder of Stirling Ludwick, who has been awarded the 2026 Queensland Training Awards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸŽ‰

This is such a well-deserved recognition of Stirling’s hard work, dedication and commitment to learning, leadership and sharing knowledge with the next generation of GMY Rangers.

Stirling began his journey with GMY Rangers as a trainee in 2023 and has continued to grow from strength to strength β€” completing his qualifications, taking on leadership responsibilities and now working towards his goal of helping deliver training and opportunities to future Rangers.

To see our second GMY ranger recognised on the Queensland stage is an incredibly proud moment for all of us at GMYPPBC and GMY Rangers. β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›

A huge congratulations also to all of the 2026 Queensland Training Awards winners and finalists. There were so many incredible achievements celebrated on the night, and it was an honour to see the dedication and talent across Queensland’s training sector recognised.

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET), Apprentice Employment Network and all of the sponsors and partners who helped make the 2026 Queensland Training Awards possible. Your support helps shine a light on the incredible opportunities that vocational education and training creates for Queenslanders.

RAM Training Services and the Queensland Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program thank you for providing the Ranger to Trainer pathway and enabling our Rangers to develop new skills and mentor and train our next generation of Rangers πŸ™πŸΎ

And Stirling β€” we are so proud of you! β€οΈπŸ†

From a GMY Skilling Queenslanders for work trainee ranger to Queensland Training Awards winner β€” what an incredible journey, and we can’t wait to see where it takes you next and we wish you all the best at the Australian Training Awards in December! πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ”₯

Congratulations, Stirling! A well-earned and very proud moment πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ†πŸŽ‰

GMY Junior Ranger Team Leader Inspires the Next Generation of Ranger Trainers

GMY Junior Ranger Team Leader Stirling Ludwick was recently invited by QILSRP to speak with participants in Round 3 of the Ranger to Trainer Program, sharing his experience with the 14 rangers currently undertaking the course.

Having successfully completed the program in 2025, Stirling provided a firsthand perspective on the challenges and rewards of gaining a TAE (Training and Assessment) qualification. He offered practical advice and encouragement to participants as they work through the course and tackle their assessments.

The session gave participants the opportunity to hear from someone who has recently completed the program and understands the commitment required to balance study, work and other responsibilities. Stirling's journey demonstrated how dedication and perseverance can create new opportunities while helping strengthen skills and leadership within ranger programs.

The Ranger to Trainer Program, facilitated by QILSRP and delivered by RAM Training Services, supports rangers to develop the skills and confidence needed to become trainers and mentors in their communities.

Stirling's success is a testament to the value of the program. This Saturday, he will travel to Brisbane as a finalist in the Queensland Training Awards, where he is in the running for the 2026 Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year award.

We are proud of Stirling's achievements and grateful to QILSRP for inviting him to inspire the next group of Ranger to Trainer participants.

πŸ‘ Good luck, Stirling. We know you'll represent GMY and our Yarrabah community with pride! πŸŒΏπŸŽ“
