Gascoyne RSL Sub-Branch

Gascoyne RSL Sub-Branch The RSL has a proud tradition of serving current and former members of the Australian Defence Forces

The RSL was founded in 1916 to provide comradeship and support to Australia’s Veterans and their families. That core mission has never changed, but continues to evolve to meet the needs of each generation of servicemen and women. We have a branch network that covers Australia and any Veteran who needs help will get it - every serving ADF member and Veteran will be warmly welcomed at their local RSL

Sub-Branch or club. We advocate for the best possible conditions for our serving men and women, and for those who have served the nation in the past. We foster respect and thanks from the nation for all those who have made sacrifices in Australia’s name and we will provide a strong voice on issues of national unity and security.

Invitation to all residents and visitors to Carnarvon

Commemorative Service - Vietnam Veterans Day
18th August at 15.00hrs
Location: Town Cenotaph (Corner of Francis and Stuart Street Carnarvon).

Vietnam Veterans’ Day is observed in Australia each year on 18 August, with the date chosen to commemorate the Battle of Long Tan, fought on 18 August 1966.

It is a day to remember the almost 60,000 Australians who served in the Vietnam War, including those who served in the Australian Army, Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force. It also remembers the more than 500 Australians who died during the conflict and the many thousands who returned home carrying physical and psychological wounds.

The Battle of Long Tan, involving 108 Australian and New Zealand troops against a much larger Viet Cong and North Vietnamese force, became one of the most significant battles in Australia's Vietnam War history.

More broadly, Vietnam Veterans’ Day is not simply about remembering a battle. It is an opportunity to acknowledge all who served — those who fought, those who supported them, those who returned, and those who never came home.

Lest we forget.
18 August — Vietnam Veterans’ Day.

TGIF! No, not the restaurant... just a statement. What a week!

With all this rain, I can't help but find myself humming Singin' in the Rain. Let's hope the sunshine isn't too far away.

Regardless of how your week started—or how it's ending—I know one thing for certain: I'm grateful. One of the great things about the RSL is that there's always someone willing to lend a shoulder, listen to your story, or simply share a laugh. Mind you, sometimes the listener just needs to turn their hearing aids up a notch!

The bar will be open as usual if you'd like to enjoy a refreshing beverage, and because it's the first Friday of the month, we'll also have our famous Sausage Sizzle, with locally made sausages available for a gold coin donation per serve.

So, shake off the week, catch up with friends old and new, and ease into the weekend with good company, good food, and a cold drink.

As for me, it'll be time to peel off the gumboots, escape the rain, and warm up beside the BBQ. I can already smell the onions sizzling...

Oh and before I go’
I had a beer last night and on the can, it said "Best drunk in August, 2026."
I want to thank Carlton United Breweries for this prestigious award.

As tomorrow is the first Friday of the month, the Gascoyne RSL will once again be open to the good people of Carnarvon which will include our celebrated Sausage Sizzle, offered for a gold coin donation per serve.

Everyone is welcome. With an exciting range of refreshments and the best-priced drinks in town, come down and see what we have to offer.

The evening BBQ follows our normal operating procedures, meaning the famous 3 B’s will be in full force:

BBQ • Beers • Bu****it

Everyone is encouraged to take part in the activities, with yours truly proudly leading the charge in one of those B’s… I’ll let you decide which one. 😄

Of course, we also operate under the 7 P’s of RSL Procedure:

Punctuality – The bar opens at 16:00
Pint – A highly respected unit of measure
Patter – The preferred form of communication
Pronunciations – Best practiced after a few drinks
Pleasurable – That feeling when a cold beer hits your hand
Participation – Accepting the challenge at the pool table
Paddock-to-Plate – Otherwise known as the BBQ

The Gascoyne RSL is proud to announce that this coming Friday – the first Friday of the month – is Sausage Sizzle Night!

Our brand-new BBQs are still being christened, and in keeping with our commitment to supporting local businesses, we've sourced locally produced sausages for the occasion, which will be available for a gold coin donation per serving. So, if you're looking for something tasty to get your teeth into, or simply fancy a nice cold drink after a long week, the Gascoyne RSL has you covered.

The BBQ will fire up at around 1730 hrs (5.30 pm for those who still haven't mastered the 24-hour clock!), and everyone is welcome—whether you're a Carnarvon local or just passing through.

As always, our well-stocked bar will be open from 1600 hrs (4.00 pm), and for those who prefer something without the kick, we'll have soft drinks, tea, coffee, and maybe even a hot chocolate on offer.

So everyone's a winner... hang on a minute, I think there's a song in there somewhere!

TGIF!

That’s right folks, it’s Friday and your local RSL will be opening soon.

So, if it’s camaraderie, good-spirited conversation, a cold beer, or a game of pool you’re after, you’ll find it all at the Gascoyne RSL.

With what must be some of the best-priced drinks in town and free pool for all patrons, there’s something for everyone.

And for those worried about losing the family farm on the pool table, rest assured — no betting is the rule, so no sheep stations will be changing hands tonight!

Come on down, say g'day, and enjoy a great evening with good company.

And because it's Friday, and I'm sure we need a laugh....

Two drunks visit a brothel.
The Madam takes a look at them and says to the girls, "Get two inflatable dolls, these guys are too drunk to notice."
During the walk home, one guy says to the other, "I think my girl was dead, she never made a sound or moved."
The second guy says,, "Well, I think mine was a witch."
"Why do you think that?" asked the first guy.
"Well, I bit her on the ass and then she flew out the window!!"
