Jimmy (a Director of Community Friends) is one of the top philanthropists I personally know. Not only does he work for free for Community Friends, 7 days a week, but it seems he is on-call 24 hours a day.
Jimmy lives within hearing distance of the park where we give out food. At 2 am on Tuesday (27/06/2023), he heard a woman crying in the park. He got up, saw her, and asked how he could help.
She said she was cold and hungry. Jimmy then gave her some food she could eat immediately, two blankets and invited her to our Food Giveaway the following day, where we could give her ready-to-eat hot meals and other foods.
FORGET WALLY. WHERE’S THE FOOD?
Can you help us to help people in need?
I get five to ten calls daily from people asking for food parcels. Jimmy also gets calls every day. We used to be able to say we provide everyone who attends our Food Giveaway with sufficient food for four days. We can no longer say this. This is still our aim, but we fail week after week. We can’t get enough food.
I estimate we need more food for ANOTHER 900 meals every week. Seventy-five people having three meals a day for four days is 900 meals. On top of this, our food parcels are getting smaller and smaller.
The problem is that more people are struggling financially. So more people are using our services. Demand for our food is increasing. At the same time, shops, supermarkets, food processors and manufacturers are also finding it difficult. People buy less, so these businesses hold less stock and have less excess stock to donate.
BUT you may be able to help us. You (or a friend) may know a shop, supermarket, food processor or manufacturer who may be open to donating food to us. We currently have sufficient bread suppliers.
Alternatively, maybe you know a school or business willing to conduct a food drive for Community Friends.
If you know of such a business/school and they are willing to talk to me, please ring me. If you can’t get through to me, please text me, and I will call you back. My mobile number is 0418 754 900.
One of our chest freezers died to rub salt into the wound the other day. In sausages alone, we lost $1500. (I know the cost because I bought them). I don’t know the cost of the rest of the meat, but it was substantial. We have a reconditioned commercial freezer arriving on July 4th.
Please help us to help people in need. Financial contributions are great as we can buy food like sausages, meat etc., but we DESPERATELY need you to use your contacts to find more food sources.
