And now for something a little different! When friends of mine decided to get married, they approached me to request a very bespoke wedding cake.
She is from NZ and is his little kiwi while he is her penguin. They aren't the sort of couple who wanted fluff or frills, but wanted a cake to capture their personalities, humour and style - but also a cake that means something.
So, as requested, the kiwi was created to playfully push the penguin into the "waters of marriage". And, instead of two wedding rings on the top tier to signify a forever bond, we took the idea of a penguin who selects a smooth pebble to give to his chosen partner. Topping it off was a custom acrylic heart topper with their names and date married.
Half of each tier was covered in flowers from the bouquets, and ribbon around each cake in the brides chosen theme colour to tie it all in.
Oddly enough, a geologist was attending the wedding and he asked the bride and groom how they managed to find "high grade, fine grained metamorphic rocks with quartz veins exactly like the rounded river cobbles you find in the rivers of the South Island of New Zealand". What a compliment that a geologist could not tell these "stones" were, in fact, made of fondant! 😊
Also, the bride has asked me to add that the venue catering staff commented at how well the cake was able to be cut and maintain structure. Much love for all of the compliments - it really made my day!
Bottom tier was carrot and walnut cake with lemon cream cheese filling, while the top two tiers were lemon syrup cake with lemon cream cheese filling. And everyone went back for seconds!
Congratulations to Robyn & Clem - we were so privileged to be part of their special day ❤
