10 years ago, we packed up our lives and moved 10,000 km away from home. We left our very stable jobs and moved to Australia with hardly any friends, no jobs, and just one Airbnb booked for us.
I never thought I’d leave my big family and move away like this. But when Rajesh came to me and said, “What do you think about us moving to Canada or Australia?”, my first thought was, “I think I’d like the snow. Canada would be good!” (PS: I would have hated it) 😂
But I was also hooked on MasterChef Australia at the time. I was so amazed by participants as young as 23–25, people our age, following their passion and baking and cooking such incredible food. I just couldn’t comprehend how, at that age, they had so much freedom to pursue what they wanted.
So I said, “Yeah, I think Australia sounds good. Let’s move there!” 😂
Rajesh, the research guy that he is, did all the paperwork, got us our PR, and off we went.
When I was deciding on the menu, I thought I should make this pecan tart — the one that was set as a challenge for the contestants on MasterChef Australia by Gareth Whitton (buy his book if you're into tarts 😉)
So this week, you’ll all be celebrating 10 years of us moving to Australia with this smoked pecan and butterscotch tart. ❤️
It still needs a little fine-tuning, but I’ll get there by Saturday. 😉
