How to ruin pasta for a toddler… apparently.

If this feels familiar, you’re in very good company.

Toddlers are still learning about food, and it’s completely normal for preferences to change from day to day — even meal to meal.

What looks like “fussy eating” is often part of normal development.

Keep offering, keep it low pressure, and remember — today’s “no” doesn’t mean “never.”

Send this to someone negotiating with a toddler over dinner tonight 😉

Understanding CMPA starts with recognising that not all allergies look the same.Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) can present in two different ways, and the timing of symptoms is one of the key differences.

IgE-mediated CMPA
Symptoms usually appear quickly — within minutes to a couple of hours after consuming dairy.
These reactions can include hives, swelling, vomiting, wheezing, or in rare cases anaphylaxis, and require urgent medical assessment.

Non-IgE CMPA
Symptoms are typically delayed, often appearing 24–72 hours after dairy exposure.
They can look quite different and may include reflux, eczema, diarrhoea or constipation, mucous in stools, congestion, unsettled sleep, or vomiting.

Because symptoms can be delayed and less obvious, non-IgE allergies are sometimes harder to recognise.

Understanding the pattern of symptoms helps guide the right next steps and ensures families receive the most appropriate support.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. With the right guidance, families are able to find a feeding approach that works well for their child.

Just read this post And love it for my tubies!!!!

There are actually countless things I wish I knew before my five-year-old had a G-tube stuck into his belly. But in the spirit of keeping things concise, I'll kick us off with ten:

🏥 When they tell you feeding-tube placement surgery will only mean a night or two in hospital, don't believe them. Pack enough clean un**es for a week.

🤨 They'll start your kid on a diet of commercial formula and send you on your merry way. If things don't stay merry on that formula, there are other options.

🍎 One of those options might be blended real food. If you want to explore this, find a medical team that will support you to do so.

💉 Reusable syringes exist and are about a million times easier to push blended food through than the single-use ones. Plus, planet saving.

🫧 Prime that line! Seriously woman, stop pushing a tube-full of air into your kid before every meal.

🌱 Befriend the Boon Grass drying rack. That spikey sink-side wonder just happens to work a treat for syringes and other bits of tube-feeding kit.

🚙 Stash a spare G-tube, extension set and syringes in your car glovebox.

💊 To avoid zombification, give at least one syringe of food BEFORE the cocktail of meds.

🧁 ‘Naughty’ stuff blends up very nicely. Because why should tubies miss out on birthday cake?

🌏 There's an ENORMOUS community of people and families who, like you, are making tube-feeding a part of their lives. Find them, learn from them, ENJOY them!

So, what else do we wish we'd known? x

I’d love for everyone to share their tube feeding hacks!

What have you found makes your life as a tubie or tubie mum easier!

As I dietitian I looove the Michelle bridges scales. One of my tubie mums found it and told me about it. It does your calorie counting for you!

So you can keep scooping in the food until you hit your target calorie volume.

Hello to everyone!!

I wanted to use this post as an example of how I assess my patients for feeding assessment and support. This could range for those with disability and complex needs, fussy feeders, tubies who can also manage oral intake or families who want support with texture progression.

I assess all aspects of feeding to support families and children to bring happiness back to mealtimes.

By creating routine you create appetite and appetite leads to motivation and motivation leads to trying new things.

I look at bowels, airway, cutlery, and chairs to make sure all aspects are covered.

This little one recently improved her bowel habits and now she is hungry for her meals!

Her speech pathologist assessed her skill with her textures and we are incorporating these into her nutrition plan.

Mum feels so much more relaxed now and happy at meals too!

This is my passion and I look forward to hearing from anyone who has questions about my service and how I can help!

This is my advice for how grazing affects on eating.

It is one piece of the puzzle for a healthy routine and creating positive eating habits.

By keeping food scheduled at certain times during the day we create appetite and appetite is our best friends when we want kids to eat new foods.

Scheduled meals and snacks create routine and allow children to expect food regularly and trust their parents to do so.

Breathing is my new discovery in the world of fussy feeding.

And it makes complete sense. If we don’t breathe well we don’t eat well. It’s like thinking about sitting down to steak and salad after doing a 100 sprint.

If we start to think about why a child’s breathing might not be 100 percent and then think who can help then you are on the right path to one piece of the puzzle.

Now not all children who are selective have breathing issues. And we know that all children are fussy at some point.

But this is just something to think about if you have a child who is texture fussy. Who is tossing and turning all night, bed wetting frequently, snoring, teeth grinding or mouth breathing to name a few.

If this sounds like you dm and we can discuss your options dietetically and whether an ENT is your new best friend.
