VISION & MISSION

International mission statement
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name without discrimination. Our Mission
The Salvation Army Australia is a Christian movement dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus. We share the love of Jesus by:

Caring for people
Creating faith pathways
Building healthy communities
Working for justice

Our vision
Wherever there is hardship or injustice, Salvos will live, love and fight alongside other, to transform Australia one life at a time with the love of Jesus. Our values
Recognising that God is always at work in the world we value:
- Human Dignity
- Justice
- Hope
- Compassion
- Community

The Salvation Army in Australia could be described as seeking to be a growing, loving community of people dynamically living God's mission in a broken world. This requires us to be a people who are: wholly devoted to God; obediently responsive to the Holy Spirit; powerfully committed to each other; compassionately engaged with people in need; totally dedicated to reaching other people with the good news of Jesus Christ and leading them to faith.

We are blessed by Matt on the keyboard every Sunday but yesterday we were blessed as he shared his Faith Story…

Born in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Matt didn’t enjoy school or people much in the first 7 years of his life, but that changed because God takes our weaknesses and made them into strength for His sake.

Matt was thankful to God for the next 7 years which were great. When the family, Dad, Mum and Matt’s older sister moved to Tasmania, they were living on a 5 acre property and Matt started loving life and school. Looking back at a Grade 1 class photo, everyone was unhappy; Grade 2, everyone was happy. Through primary school he very much a Christian and everyone knew.

In late primary school Matt moved to another school for high school which he didn’t enjoy but God was speaking to him. “I decided I was going to read my Bible and pray every day. … On the 1st of January, 1989 I decided I was going to do that.” Matt said, “And God spoke to me enormously.” Massive change came and it was difficult on a number of levels, but God led him though that.

From the end of Grade 12 they move to Wollongong. Matt trusted God, delivered pizza, worked at Coles, spent 4 years at Tabor Bible College. The motivation was perhaps ‘just going into the family business’ (Dad was a minister). Matt said, “This is where things got interesting. … When you choose to read and pray every day but start to follow your own directions.” He met a girl, got married, but he remembers a warning from God, and the marriage fell apart spectacularly. He was driven into God’s arms. God said to read Job and Matt took away from it that: “God sends rain on the just and the unjust.” Then God said to read Isaiah and he took away from it that: “God allows sin to continue for a while and then He says ‘Enough.’ … The remnant of Israel is brought back into relationship with Him. … God chastises those He loves.” – Postmortem: Matt hopes to follow God a bit more quickly. He had put the girl above God.

Is it easy Following Jesus? – Yes and No.
NO: The world is always trying to push us into its mould, money relationships, etc. The second we take our eyes off Jesus, we will slip into the things of the flesh.

YES: His yoke is easy, and his burden is light! (See Matt 11:30)
At the end of the day for Matt, God is his most important relationship. He is Matt’s ‘Fortress Protector’. “We know God’s character, how he leads. We do know God’s path in a general sense, and if we do follow, it’s the best! – Fulfilment – Contentment – Surrender”

Matt reminded us that: “With all the wrong-doing in the world, Jesus has paid that price, so we don’t need to carry the load. He’s has paid that load. That’s why it’s easy to follow Jesus.”

“Surrender also means peace. We’re no longer fighting against ourselves, or God, or other people. Not within our hearts. – God’s heart is purity, love, faithfulness, and forgiveness. He loves, creates, provides. – Only goodness! … When we’re not surrendered, we’re not allowing God to do that. Captain Roz added, “The free will.”
Matt said, “So then the goodness of God isn’t given to us.” And, “Never hoard God’s goodness; be a conduit.”

After working in the one field for 15 years, he is now in a time of transition. He has a new house, but isn’t getting too attached to it. He has learnt not to hold on to any thing too tightly.

The cost-of-living crisis continues to push Aussies to breaking point. We’re here to help, but we can’t do it without the generosity of our supporters. Help us help the most vulnerable in our communities.

Funds raised during the Red Shield Appeal help The Salvation Army deliver vital community programs and social services that truly transform lives.

Help be the hope Australians desperately need!

Please donate if you can, or fundraise for us, to help us continue our work alongside people in need. - THANK YOU!!

Yesterday morning we had a lovely morning of worship, with a great message, and we felt the importance of being ‘Jesus-centred, Spirit-led and hope revealed’ for the future of the church and of The Salvation Army!

Thank you to Major Dean Clarke who shared a message about the Holy Spirit:

1) We heard about PRAYER that precedes revival, as several examples of incredible revivals and outcomes were told, all of which started with prayer. Starting with repentance and a call to holiness, the church prayed, everyday Christians prayed:
- For more people!
- For the Spirit to come!
- For lives to be transformed!
- For people to come into the Kingdom of God!

“They all met together and were constantly united in prayer…” Acts 1:14a

2) Followed by the PRESENCE of the Holy Spirit:
- Who leads us into all truth.
- Who is our Comforter, Encourager or Counsellor.
- Who teaches, guides, and gives peace.

3) Then we will have the pentecostal POWER to transform! – To become like Jesus! – To serve!

“He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.”
Titus 3:5

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

May we be praying, have the presence of the Holy Spirit within us, and be transformed to become more like Jesus!

It’s all about Jesus.

This morning we were blessed with a visit from Majors Cherie & Chris Clarke from the Glenorchy Salvos. Major Cherie led us in worship, we got to know the Clarkes, Major Chris gave the message, and we even completed a 50 piece vibrant jigsaw!

Major Chris reminded us that it is Christ who holds all things together like glue, staples or a paper clip!

We read Colossians 1:15-23 (MSG) where the people needed to be reminded about Jesus. They had been listening to false teaching, maybe public opinion, and were starting to lose track, starting to lose their first love for Christ.

God is supreme! We are to honour and glorify Him and fix our eyes on Jesus, who is God.

For the church (people) to recognise and follow our purpose of simply being in His presence. His presence is spacious enough, with room for everyone “without crowding”.

No matter how broken we are or “dislocated”, He takes us from a black and white existence, and makes a vibrant display of life!
“…all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe- people and things, animals and atoms— get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, ….”

Once we had our backs turned to Him. Then through Jesus’ death and resurrection and acceptance of Him, we can be in His presence. “You don’t walk away from a gift like that!”

Jesus is bringing me together!
Jesus is bringing it all together in vibrant harmonies!
And now we share the name of Jesus!

Thanks for the reminder Chris & Cherie.

This Sunday, as is always the way… everyone is welcome to join us for worship at 10am!!
Praising the Lord, a time to honour the women of our church, and The Word.
This week, ‘Family’… we will look at the genealogy of Jesus!! Very interesting. Among the ‘significant women’ in this list of family is Mary, Mother of Jesus… with her obedient heart and life she lived these words she spoke, ‘I am the Lord’s servant, may it be to me as you have said’
Luke 1:38

Yesterday we had our Red Day to launch The Red Shield Appeal for the Kingborough-Huon Corps, and we had a visit from the effervescent Shieldy! ❤️
Captain Roz had a chat with Shieldy, although Shieldy only used hand gestures, explaining how we can do our bit to help and how that we are motivated because we ‘Love God’ and ‘Love Others’! - We want to offer hope! - To which Shieldy gave a confident thumbs up!!

We had a lovely time of worship, of shared testimony about some wonderful answers to prayer in God's time, followed by a message of comfort, hope, and encouragement by Aux-Lieut Jackie.
