I am overjoyed to have made a cake for my daughter’s birthday after all these years. I last made a cake for my daughter’s birthday in 2021 while I was in India. I just didn’t feel right or good to bake until now. Moving and a lot of other things are really unsettling. It is finally peace. To bake for a joyful occasion, you need to be at ease and have a clear head. Nothing compares to baking for my beloved daughter.

I love pastel colours.
Humble Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and chocolate filling.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe anxiety, and drains you mentally in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore. You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. I need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially this past year. Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient….. and hopefully more of us will stick around!

I'm sorry, I hate to write this. This year, Ashel's Baking Heaven won't be baking Our Special Fruit Cakes or Plum Cakes. Covid or no Covid, there has been no stopping since 2014. Thank you so much, both for what I was baking and for whom I'm baking. Love means a lot to me, and you all will always have a place in my heart. Next year, we'll return even better and stronger. Up until then, Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year. 🥰🥰🙏🙏😘😘
