We’re looking for a friendly, reliable and motivated Café Bakery All-Rounder to join our team at St George Cakes & Gelati.

Hours: 20–25 hours per week (with potential to grow)
Days: Monday to Saturday (rostered shifts)

About the role:

You’ll be involved in all aspects of our busy bakery and café, including:

* Serving customers with a smile
* Taking customer orders
* Making coffee
* Packing retail and wholesale orders
* Answering phone enquiries
* General cleaning and maintaining a tidy workspace
* Assisting with the day-to-day running of the café

In addition to your café duties, you’ll also play an important role in the day-to-day operation of our wholesale business. This includes:

* Processing daily wholesale orders
* Preparing production and stock sheets for our baking team
* Assisting with the organisation of daily wholesale operations
* Being one of the first points of contact each morning to help ensure the day starts smoothly

We’re looking for someone who:
✔ Is punctual and reliable
✔ Takes initiative and works well independently
✔ Is responsible and trustworthy
✔ Has excellent customer service skills
✔ Can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
✔ Has strong organisational skills and attention to detail
✔ Has a positive attitude and is willing to help wherever needed
✔ Has barista experience (preferred, but a willingness to learn is also valued)

This is a varied role within a family-run business, so no two days are the same. We’re looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work, is proactive, and genuinely wants to be part of a close-knit team.

Some people see a bakery.

We see a lifetime of early mornings, hard work, and sacrifice.

This is Dad.

He’s been working in this bakery since he was a teenager, after my Nonno opened the doors back in 1971. More than 50 years later, not much has changed.

While most of Adelaide is still asleep, he’s already here packing wholesale orders, filling cannoli, making sure deliveries are out on time, and preparing the café for the day. Quietly, and without any fuss, he keeps everything running the way it should. His day doesn’t finish until well into the afternoon, and then he does it all again the next day.

He’s old school. He believes if you’re early, you’re on time. If a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing properly. He leads by example, works harder than anyone else in the room, and is hands-on with every aspect of the bakery. He answers the phones, serves customers, packs the orders, fills the cannoli, rolls pastry, makes dough, cleans the tables… whatever needs doing, he gets it done.

He’s also one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet and without a doubt one of the best bosses around.

Family businesses like ours aren’t built overnight. They’re built over decades by people like him—people who show up every single day, not for recognition, but because they care deeply about what they do.
