I was chatting with a business owner over the weekend who’s been in business for more than 50 years.

His dad started it. He took it over. Half a century later, I asked him what success looked like.

His answer?

“Enough to keep the business going, pay the staff, put a roof over my head, and see steady growth.”

I absolutely loved that.

We’re constantly told that success means bigger, faster, more.

More stores.

More followers.

More revenue.

More, more, more.

But here’s a bloke who’s spent 50 years in business, and his definition of success wasn’t becoming the biggest. It was building something sustainable.

A business that supports his family. A business that supports his staff. A business that’s still there year after year.

It got me thinking.

Maybe we’ve started measuring success with the wrong ruler.

Maybe success isn’t always about chasing the next big thing.

Maybe it’s about building something that lasts.

As a small business owner, I found that incredibly reassuring.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to The Vale yesterday and supported Samuel and his Kouki business on the public holiday 💚

As a parent, there’s something pretty special about watching your child work hard at something they’ve built themselves, and your support means more than you probably realise.

It was also really nice for me to be there and not be working for a change 😂

Usually when I see so many of you, I’m behind a counter, packing macarons, decorating cakes, or running around like a mad woman. Yesterday I got to slow down, have proper conversations, and catch up with so many familiar faces outside of a work setting.

Thank you for stopping by, saying hello, supporting a young entrepreneur, and making the day such a memorable one. He sold out by the way!

The mixer has been going all day long 😅

Today alone we’ve whipped up over 40kg of buttercream, and judging by the state of the benches, bowls and piping bags everywhere, it’s been a very productive day.

Usually I like to pretend the kitchen is calm and organised… but then there’s days like today where we’re stilk out the back making an absolute mess while trying to keep up with all the cakes heading out the door tomorrow 🎂✨

Different colours, different designs, buttercream everywhere, and somehow every bowl is dirty at the same time.

But honestly, what’s cake decorating without a little bit of mess?

If the kitchen isn’t looking slightly chaotic, are we even making cake? 😂

✨ LONG WEEKEND UPDATE ✨

Tonight we’re open until 8pm and Saturday we’re here from 12pm–8pm 🙌

And gosh… we’ve got some DAYM good flavours in the fridge this weekend 😍

If you’re a fan of our chocolate topped macarons, I think we’ve managed to pack the cabinet with just about all of them 🤤 Alongside winter favourites like Almond Croissant, Crème Brûlée, Chai, Gingerbread and hot chocolate.

Here’s where to find us over the long weekend:

📍 Friday: Shop open until 8pm
📍 Saturday: Shop open 12pm–8pm

📍 Sunday: Shopfront closed, but you’ll find us at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market from 8:30am–12:30pm.

📍 Monday: Shopfront closed as I’ll be visiting The Vale Market from 10am–2pm with samkoukies Cookies for their very first market stall. Come and say hello at the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre!

Apparently when it’s cold, wet and raining… everyone comes to The Macaron Bar 😂☔️🤍

This is genuinely the fullest our fridge has looked all week because you beautiful humans keep clearing us out every single day.

Every morning we fill it.
Every afternoon we look at each other and wonder where everything went.

Not that we’re complaining 🥹
